Humbolt Independent news item Aug 1988: "John L. Rasmussen was born June 22, 1852 on Langeland Island, Lindelse, Denmark to Rasmus Hansen and wife, Petrine Larsdotter Hansen. John came to the United States in 1870 and was naturalized June 21, 1876. His mother, Kate, and brother, George G. and Peter Christian, and sisters, Anne Marie and Caroline, followed him to the United States.
