The fird of the family to locate in this town was Anthony Van Etten, son of Jacob and Antje (Westbrook) Van Etten, who were married in Kingston, Ulster County, N.Y., April 22, 1719. The came to the Deleware Vally about 1730, settling at Normanock, on the Jersey side of the river, opposite the island of the same name. Anthony was born in Napanoch, Ulster County, N. Y., and was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church at Kingston, June 12, 1726. On the 3d of August, 1750, his marriage was celebrated with Hannah Decker, daughter of Thomas and sister of Major Decker. For a time then resided at Normanock, N.J., but son after came to Deerpark, having received a piece of land from Mrs. Van Etten's father. Here Anthony built a stone house, which was later occupied by his son. Capt. Henry Van Etten, and also erected a blacksmith shop, in which he did a thriving business. He became owner of one of the finest farms in the town of Deerpark. He was about five feet ten inches in height and weighed one hundred and sixty pounds. For many years he served as Justice of the Pease, holding the office up to the time of this death, which occurred in 1778. His wife survived him many years. They were the parents of the following children; Thomas, Antje, Janneke, Margarieta, Levi, Alida, Hendricus, Blandina, Maria, Thomas, Jacob and Anthony.

"Minisink is the name (given) to a mining settlement by the Dutch and Swedes, on both banks of Delaware River, prior to 1700, extending from the Water Gap in northerly direction about forty miles. The Minisink region also included...portion of western and northern N.J. and the southerly sections of Orange and Sullivan counties...in state of N.Y. The village of Minisink in N.J...near the confluence of Delaware and Neversink rivers...burned...by Brandt and his followers. There is a township in Orange Co. named Minisink, organized in 1780, which originally comprised a large extent of territory expending into the N.J. line, which in 1790 contained 2,215 inhabitants. It now covers less than a third of its former area. Jurian Westfall was one of the original settlers..."
Anthony Westbrook was a Judge and an elder in the Dutch Church and a large landowner.
