15 Oct 1879 North Adams, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts "North Adams, Mass., is greatly excited over the exposure of two noted spiritualistic mediums, Webster Eddy [brother, Daniel Webster Eddy?] and Mary Eddy Huntoon. They are members of the Eddy family of Vermont, and went to North Adams for the purpose of holding a number of seances. ... Several persons, who were satisfied that the mediums were frauds, determined to expose them. ... A Constable and the Sheriff were engaged to stand outside the door and to enter at the instant their names should be called.... Mrs. Huntoon was believed to be the "materialized" spirits who appeared in rapid succession during the seance, and on the appearance of an Indian chief, one of the committee sprang to him and held him fast in his arms. The officers rushed in with a light and the spirit proved to be Mrs. Huntoon.... The excitement was intense, and the believers were confounded at the rascality of the two."
