Burial was in the Britton Cemetery. Price Funeral Chapel, Britton, was in charge of arrangements. Frances died Saturday, September 2, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton. Frances Irma Kilman was born February 7, 1906, at Bath to John and Estella (Wilbur) Kilman. When Frances was 6 weeks old, her father died. Her mother remarried, and had five more children. The family moved to Monango, ND, where Frances graduated from high school. She later received her teacher's credentials from NSTC in Aberdeen, and taught country schools near Cresbard and Pleasant Valley. On October 19, 1929, she married George Kann. They farmed near Lake City and later moved to a farm in Nordland Township in 1940. They farmed together until a farm accident claimed George's life October 20, 1951. After his death, Frances moved to Britton and took a job at the Britton Library. She served as the librarian for 24 years before retiring. Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Britton and had served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed traveling and had visited Paris, London, Mexico City, and Toronto, as well as many places in the United States. She sold her home in Britton, and lived for a while in Aberdeen with her son Bob and his wife, Audrey. She returned to Britton and resided at Spruce Court until moving to Wheatcrest Hills in December of 2002. Survivors include her six children, Helen (Len) Roche, Fenton, MI; Kenneth (Opal) Kann, Britton; Robert (Audrey) Kann, Aberdeen; Larry (Gladys) Kann, Britton; Doris Kann, Topeka, KS; Mary Kann, Minneapolis; one half sister, Donna Perkins, Kansas City, KS; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, two half-brothers, and two half-sisters. Music for the funeral was provided by Dorthy Jones, organist, and Peg Davidson, soloist. Casketbearers were Timothy Roche, Gregory Kann, Steven Kann, Charles Kann, Clinton Kann, and Robert Kann, Jr."
"The funeral for Frances Kann, 100, was held Tuesday, September 12 at First Presbyterian Church, Britton. Rev. Terry Sletto officiated.3South Dakota Vital Record.
