He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the European and African theaters, as an operations officer for the 453rd Bomb Squadron of B-26s. He was awarded the Silver Star. He married Margaret Hoffman. He moved to Lakeland from Ellendale 40 years ago. He worked as an agent for Allstate Insurance.
He married Joyce McGinnis on May 7, 1982, in Hawaii. They divided their time between Ellendale and Lakeland for many years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lakeland and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Ellendale, and was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Lakeland.
Survivors include his wife of Ellendale and Lakeland; one son, David Rekow of Sarasota; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Paul (Marcia) Rogers of Plymouth, Minn.; three brothers, Karl Rekow and Henry Rekow, both of Ellendale, and Gary Rekow of San Francisco; three sisters, Donalda Perkins of Kansas City, Mo., Gladys Shonk of Lakeland and Frances Kann of Fargo, N.D.; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandsons.
