Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Westport,S.D. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W. Bertha passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Aberdeen Living Center.
Bertha B. Fletcher was born Dec. 16, 1907, to Guy C. and Hilda Marie (Olson) Fletcher on the family farm in theBarnard/Frederick area. She attended school in Barnard and graduated from Barnard High School. Bertha married Lawrence Siemann Sept. 21, 1924, at St. Mary's Catholic Rectory in Aberdeen. They lived in California from 1926 to 1927 when they moved back to a farm in the Westport area. During the Depression, they moved into Aberdeen. From 1940 to 1947, they lived in California and then came back to Aberdeen. Bertha was employed at Northside Drug for 26 years and then with Jones Drug until she retired. She was a member of Sacred Heart CatholicChurch and Sacred Heart Altar Society Band #11 and 12. Bertha and Lawrence were married 72 years before he passed away in1996. Also preceding her in death is one daughter, Helen Marie Fife in 1994; two sisters, Norma Jackson and Mertyl Lonsdale; four brothers, Melvin, Clayton, Jack and Howard. Bertha has three grandchildren surviving, Larry (Helen) Fife of Arizona, John (Vicki) Fife of California, and Lawren (Gary) Stone o fOregon; 12 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. One brother, A.W. "Bob" (Lucille) Fletcher of Howard, Kan.; and one sister, Inez Bunce of California. Several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be JohnWalker, Roger Metzinger, Larry Fife, Charles "Chuck" Forrest, Jerry VanDover and Randy Metzinger. Soloist will be James Walker, singing "The Lord's Prayer" with Matt Hinds as organist. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the funeral Mass at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.
