Ralph George Boehm, age 74, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 in Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn.

In 1991, Mr. Boehm was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris Pansick Boehm. He graduated with honors in economics from the University of Wisconsin after serving in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician in the Pacific theatre in World War II.

Mr. Boehm was employed by Consolidated Forwarding Company as Terminal Manager, Supervisor of Transportation at J.I. Case Company and Traffic Manager of Modine Manufacturing in Racine, Wisc., before coming to Virginia in 1968. He retired in 1992 as Division Manager of Donner Mouldings.

In the past 30 years he has been a foster father of over 100 teenage girls. He was currently Chief de Gare of 40/8 and held both local and state offices in the past. Mr. Boehm was very active on the local and state level of American Legion and was adjutant of Post 18, having held Commander and Vice Commander Posts in the past, was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, Foster Parents Association, Smyth County Historical Society and several bridge clubs.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a 4th Degree Knight, Father Iaken 1840 in Kingsport, Tenn. He was an accomplished violinist, enjoyed big band jazz, and was an antique car lover. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and was an active civic leader.

Mr. Boehm is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolores Igl Boehm of Marion; five sons and two daughters: David and wife Dottie Boehm of Marion, twins, Stephen and wife Barbara Boehm of Syracuse Utah, and James and wife Judy Boehm of Atlanta, Ga.; Mark Boehm of Atlanta, Ga.; twins, Ralph and wife Gay Boehm of Atlanta, Ga., and Renee Boehm of Wytheville; and Mary Rose Boehm, M.D., Charleston, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Aaron, Sarah, Kyrai, James and Joseph Boehm and Jacob Askren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo, Wisc. A Parish Wake Service will be held today at 4 p.m. and there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo, Wisc. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo, Wisc. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo, Wisc. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Smyth County Historical Society, P.O. Box 710, Marion, VA 24354.
