"Obituary: EUNICE WHITEMAN Eunice W. Whiteman, 89, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Nov. 20, 2004. She was born on March 25 1915, to Elmer and Olga Schnase in North Yakima and graduated from Yakima High in 1934. She met her future husband, Arthur J. Whiteman, and they were married July 16 1937. Before her children arrived she was the official scorekeeper for the then Yakima Pippens, now the Bears. After the arrival of her four children her life was devoted to being the consummate mother. She was their biggest supporter in all endeavors, baseball mom, Cub Scout mom and Campfire girl mom. Schools loved her for her support. Ski teams and ball teams could count on her for endless trips on the road.

Eunice had a wonderful life with her husband, Art. Together they enjoyed their passion of dancing. Whether it was at the Rigadoon Dance Club in Ellensburg, the Yakima CC or the kitchen floor at home, Stardust was always the song of choice. They also were one of the original founding families of the White Pass Ski Area and Yakima Ski Club. Skiing was her family's greatest joy. Yearly trips to Sun Valley, Idaho, joining the Sun Valley Ski Club, always found her knitting for skiing was strictly for her children's enjoyment. Fabulous sewing and needlework were her hidden talents. She enjoyed several residences; Ellensburg, Tempe, Ariz., Sequim, Bellevue and Mercer Island. Grammy Eunie's hugs were always cherished by her great-grandchildren and grandchildren alike. This very special lady will be greatly missed by her family. Eunice is survived by her daughters, Karen (Jim) Gilbert of Yakima and Nancy Hitchcock of White Swan; sons, Brent (Jeanette) Whiteman of Mercer Island and Frank (Barbara) Whiteman of Gresham, Ore.; grandchildren, Greg Hitchcock, Brent Gilmour, Nicole Buchwalter, Leslie Whiteman, Cody Whiteman, Jill Gage, Kristen Messner, Jonathan Gilmour and Ryan Whiteman; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hailley, Brody, Jake, Colby, Matthew, Molly, Bryce, Ken and T.J. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, and also by a granddaughter, Lisa Kay Hitchcock There will be a private celebration of her life on Nov. 27 at her daughter's home at noon. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation."
