"George Anton Zangl
George Anton Zangl, 93, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the St. Francis Home after a long illness.
George was born on April 1, 1911, in Antigo, Wis., the son of the late Barth and Mary Servi Zangl.
He moved to Fond du Lac with his family and was a lifelong resident here, graduating from the Fond du Lac High School with the Class of 1929, where he excelled in track.
George married Alice Farrey in June 1936, and she preceded him in death that same year. He then married Dorothy Julia Kessenich of Madison on June 21, 1939.
George worked for the Gildsdorf Motor Company and later at Giddings and Lewis until 1974, when he retired after 33 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and traveling with his family. He is a member of Holy Family Parish, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus Council 664, third degree.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Judith (George) Probolus of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; his daughter-in-law, Katherine (Friedel) Zangl; three grandchildren, Steven (Tracy) Zangl, Paul (MaryKris) Zangl and Anne Zangl; four great-grandchildren, Haley, Zachary, Luke and Jack Zangl, all of Oshkosh; two sisters, Esther (Eugene) Nehmer of Fort Atkinson and MaryAgnes (Marvin) Dreifuerst of Fond du Lac; two sisters-in-law, Connie Kessenich and RoseMary Zeier of Madison; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; two infant children; a sister, Lucille Funk; and a brother, Raymond Zangl.
• Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2004, at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Church. George’s nephew, the Rev. David Funk, O.F.M. Cap., will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
• Visitation: Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Monday, July 26, 2004, at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Church.
