The Wisconsin Necrology is 52 scrapbooks created by librarians at the Wisconsin Historical Society between 1860 and 1950. It contains nearly 30,000 obituaries clipped from newspapers and magazines. It doesn't contain every obituary but only those for people who were prominent in their local communities. These range from a few paragraphs to several pages in length, and many contain photos. Only a few obituaries are included for people who died before 1860 or after 1950.12Cemetery Inscriptions of Sauk County, Wisconsin, Compiled by Myrtle E. "Mrs. Lois Reed of this City Passes to Beyond
Lois Boughton, the only child of John and Almira Boughton, was born at Fulton, N. Y., Feb. 23, 1947. At the age of seven years she was bereft of her father. Later she came with her mother to Ft. Atkinson, Wis. where she received her education and prepared to teach school. Then with ther mother and stepfather John Lent, she came to Sauk County.
On October 20th, 1866 she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Reed and went to home making at his farm on Narrows Paririe where they lived for some fifeen years.
To this union were born two children a son, Ellsworth R. and daughter, now Mrs. Walter E. Gemmill. Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1914 and her son in 1909.
She has been in poor health for years, suffering also with loss of vision. Through all her suffering she remained patient and sweet and held fast her confidence and trust in Christ.
She gathered a host of friends around her, who came to bring cheer and comfort in her affliction and many went away deeply conscious that they had received more fromm her than they had given to her, of uplift and strength.
She was a loving mother, a devoted christian and a loyal fried. She was a memeber of the Methodist church and although unable to attend was always deepley interested in its life and progress.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs. WalterE. Gemmill and a number of cousins in Ironton, Washington and New York State.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, March 14th 1926, Rev. T. S. Beavin conducting the service, ...
Pall bearers were: Glen Knowles, Harry Thomas, Louis Thomas, Will Rosenthall, Louis Person and Eugene Faivre.
Those attending the services from out of town were Miss Hester Knowles, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Knowes, Glen Knowles, Wonewoc; A. J. Gemmill, Miss Alma L. Liessmann, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Powell, Baraboo; Mrs. G. A. Cole, Mrs. Edith Dickie, Miss Mable Scott, Lucile Draper, North Freedom; C. E. Thomas family Ironton.

"REED: E(llsworth) R. (Oct. 28) 1867 - (Sept. 16) 1909."5Obituary, Reedsburg Free Press, 23 Sep 1909.
"Ellsworh R. Reid, the only son of W. H. and Lois Reed , was born in the town of Reedsburg October 28, 1967. At an early age he began to show love of and talent for music which in later years amounted to a passion that controlled his whole life. When quite young he acquired the art of printing and worked on a daily paper at Pierre, S. D., on the Free Press in Reedsburg when Fank Hill was editor and also on a paper in Baraboo. But the call for music was so strong that later he abandoned everything for the profession he loved so well; the violin being his favorite instrument and on which he excelled. He also arranged and harmonized music for bands. He toured the United States and Canada with many troupes and played in some of the best theatres in Chicago.
Possessed of a bright, easy going fun loving dispostition he never made enemies but always had friends and was a friend of everybody. But for one possessed of a nervous, high strung temperment the life of the majority of the army of musicians is set at too rapid a pace for one to last many and he broke down. He came to his parents home in Reedsburg Monday , Sept 13, and the tired heart ceased to beat on Thursday, the 16th, at one o'clock a. m. He was a member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians.
Mr. Reed was never married, but leave besides parents one sister Mrs. Walter aGemmill of Excelsior and an aged grandmother Mrs. Lent. The funeral was held Saturday at 10 o'clock from the home. Words of comfort were spoken by Rev. Clifford of the M. E. church from the very appropriate words found in a part of the third verse of the twentieth chapter of 1st Samuel: "But as truly as the Lord liveth, there is but a step between me and death.: The singers were selected from the M. E. choir and the bearers were chosen as far as possible from the friends of his boyhood days. The remains were laid away in the family in the cemetery adjoining the city.
"After live's fitful fever he sleeps well."
