tremendously in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Osaka, already a large market for foreign apparel, has become the best place for foreign fashion industries to expand their businesses in Japan.
There are three key factors that make Osaka the best place for
foreign businesses. The most important factor is the land price in Osaka, compared to Tokyo. It enables foreign businesses to expand their businesses with bigger shops for their customers. The second factor is that Shinsaibashi runs along Midosuji Boulevard, similar to that of Champs Elysee Boulevard in Paris, which is a convenient place for shopping with its many shops. And lastly, there is an already existing area of high quality shops. An area called "Europe Dori" is lined with trendy European boutiques and an area known as "America Mura" is another lively fashion area.
The fashion industry of Shinsaibashi has expanded to include
Chanel`s largest shop in 1996, as well as other top foreign brands such as Versace, Louis Vuitton, Nike, and many more. Foreign brands have done successfully, such as Louis Vuitton, which was the first foreign brand to reach 100 billion yen in annual sales.
According to the president and CEO of Benetton Japan, "Japanese
consumers are aware of fashion and are looking for something new." It is evident that the fashion conscious Japanese are drawing in top foreign brands and the industry is catering to their needs.
