Global cross-section of environmental technologies at New Earth 2002

New Earth 2002, the fourth triennial session of one of Japan's most representative environmental fairs, will take place in Osaka Oct. 16 -19, under the overarching theme "The Challenge: The Environmental Rebirth of the Earth". INTEX Osaka, western Japan's premier trade fair site located within a few minutes' walk from the Osaka WTC Bldg., provides the venue for the show, which is co-organized by the Japan Society of Industrial Machinery Manufacturers (JSIM), Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE), and Osaka International Trade Fair Commission (OITFC). The fair showcases all manner of environmental technologies from home and abroad, encompassing such realms as waste treatment/recycling, energy conservation/storage, natural/renewable energy, water/soil treatment and purification, and environmentally friendly products. The planned exhibits of special interest include a hybrid solar-wind power generation system, a low-cost styrofoam liquefaction (thermal decomposition of styrene foam into oil) device, and eco-friendly apparel/textile goods, not to mention a variety of low-emission/clean energy vehicles. The foreign contingent at the show will comprise some 100 companies from the U.S., Germany, Korea, and other countries, while a JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization)-organized fair called Environment Japan 2002 will also be held on the same occasion. All told, an estimated 300 businesses, research institutes and public bodies will put their leading-edge technologies on display at the city-run fairground during the four-day session, as a handful of concurrent events, including an international symposium on global warming and refuse control/recycling, contribute to the broad appeal of the comprehensive event.
