This release is a compilation from several different shows from the Jerry
Garcia Band, that are from the Warfield Theater in San Francisco from various
dates in 1990.
This collaboration of his solo work was long lasting. The foundation of John
Kahn on bass and Melvin Seals on keyboards, debuted in December 1980.
They experimented with different drummers, piano players, back up vocals
throughout the years, but the core sound was born.
Their style centers around complimenting and enhancing Jerry Garcia and they
tend stick within the structure of the song. Generally the instrumentals
are long and melodic. In contrast, the
Grateful Dead band members often travels in their own direction, and miraculous
find their way back to unity.
The sound quality and song versions on this release are delightful.
The song selection includes a variety of musical styles that include a
few Originals, Blues Standards, Motown, Rock, Bob Dylan, and Gospel.
My opinion is that all the songs are well played. The blues song "Think" is a real gem and is one of the
highlights of the disc.
For fans of the Jerry Garcia Electric Band this will be a welcome edition to
their CD collection.
