Summer has arrived so lets splash out with the ultimate pool party.

THE PARTY

What you need.

A pool is a good start.

A tropical theme (easy if you're in the tropics). Try these suggestions:

• You will need a hammock

• palms

• Insect Repellent and sunscreen during the day

• large pool light

• plenty of deckchairs and chairs

• add shells, fake coral and fish to the bottom of the pool. (Hint - ensure no sharp edges, we don't want any cuts)

• citronella candles

• some big eskies

• plenty of water toys (you know, boats, fish, lilos, water guns, balls.....as the night wears on they will get plenty of use)

• hang water balloons off everything

Food - It's Australia, it's summer, your outside, fire up the BBQ. Try the usual BBQ fare, plus some marinated prawns and chicken kebabs. This should keep everyone happy. 

Drinks - It's Australia, it's summer, your outside, sounds like beer time to me. Cocktails will also add to the tropical mood and keep the girls happy.

Dress - Hawaiian shirts and skirts. Swimmers.

Entertainment

Music - OUTSIDE- Dance mixes and reggae. Perhaps a little more romantic as the night rolls on.  INSIDE- Smooth R&B.

If you have a big yard suggest games like hide and seek, treasure hunt (hide a bottle of champagne or a pair of bikinis), coits, volleyball or backyard cricket (6 and out rule must strictly enforced). Lilo races and synchronised swimming are great games for the pool. Yes I know some people would rather watch grass grow, but at a party like this synchronised swimming is hilarious. Give each team 5 minutes to come up with a routine and watch them perform synchronised drowning.

Remember, at a pool party guys love competition and girls like to watch them sweat!!

Hints

Clean the pool. Nothing ruins a pool party quicker than a dirty pool.

Have plenty of towels at the doorway to minimise water and dirt through the house.

Keep an ample supply of cold water for those who haven't paced themselves for a day of sun and fun.

A tropical punch makes for a great poolside drink.

Make a rule, cans and plastic only around the pool.
