60's & 70's Theme

Peace, love and flower power is what the 60's and 70's were all about. Not to mention bad haircuts, questionable fashion sense and some really out there music. Let Austin Powers be our inspiration for the night.

THE PARTY

Invitation:
Cover - Peace Symbol and a throw away 60's line such Groovy Baby, Flower Power or Hippie Free Love. Come to our groovy [birthday] party baby.
Inside - Day, Time, Location, Dress (60's-70's fancy dress), What you are supplying and what guests need to bring, RSVP time and contact information. Add a short description  of why and how you are celebrating.

Decorations:
Try strobe lights, the ever trendy lava lamps, multi-colored light bulbs, beads in the doorways, posters of band or artists, banners and sheets with peace symbols, flowers, Ying Yang symbols and slogans. Don't forget to light the incense for that smoky feel and look.

Dress:
Well where do we start. The essentials are a great set of hip hugging flares (or bell-bottoms if you like), a paisley wide collared shirt, the peace jacket, tie-dye shirt or a turtle neck jumper (skivvy), and a pair of shoes with some heels from hell. Optional attire would include a good scraggy hair do (with sideburns for the boys and beads for the girls), headbands, badges and the peace necklace.

If  you need 60-70's costumes try our Fancy Dress listing in the Business Directory.

Entertainment and Games:
Try some great 60's and 70's videos such as Austin Powers, the Brady Bunch (new or old), the Monkees TV shows or Bargearse (a personal favorite from the Late Show team).

A game of twister is always fun especially while all good vibes are in the air, or perhaps an ad hoc meditation session. For more adults only games, click here.

Turn off the room lights, turn on the lava lamp or a low wattage red globe, and turn up the music for some seriously groovy dancing. Music choice is not too hard as there is a plethora of 60's and 70's music available but a few of the party favourites would have to be the Austin Powers soundtrack, Hoodo Gurus (Hippie Free Love), latter Beetles albums, John Lennon, the Monkees, ABBA and Bee Gees.
