It's time to party and an engagement party is the perfect way to celebrate the good news with family and friends. There are no set rules for throwing an engagement party, but we will provide several options and tips help you decide what is the best option for you.

Traditionally the family of the bride host the engagement party, however it is perfectly acceptable for the grooms family to host the party or for the couple to throw a party themselves. Engagement parties are generally informal and simple, but the choice is entirely up to you. The timing of the party can be soon after the announcement or may be held a little closer to the wedding.

A popular trend is to have two celebrations. The first party is for the couple and their families, and a second is for your own friends. The parties are usually held at either the hosts home or at a restaurant.

The only formalities that you may wish to include in the engagement party is for the father of the bride to make a toast to the couple, to which the groom will generally respond. When the toasting is finished it's on with the celebrations and some early practice for the big event.
