The second innings started with Punjab Kings having their noses in front. However, that's not the case any longer. Sanju Samson has ensured that his side stays in the hunt and RR are now well within the touching distance of chasing this chase down. If that happens, Samson will be the sole reason. For that reason, Samson is our choice to take the player of the match award home for this match.
We are into the middle stage of the Royals' innings and they quickly need to step on the gas pedal. Both Dube and Samson would need to up the ante and there are high chances of wicket coming in for Punjab. Considering that Samson is well set, we believe that the next wicket falling will be of Shivam Dube.
Rajasthan Royals are set with a tough total to chase down and the loss of two early wickets doesn't really help their chances. The good thing is that they still have decent batting to come and at the crease. Jos Buttler is arguably the best white-ball batsmen in the world and getting past him isn't going to be easy. Bet on Buttler to be best batsman of the day for the Royals.
We are not even into the last over and it is perfectly clear that Rajasthan Royals have a collosal of a task at their hands. While they have a decent pair of batsmen at the top of the order, the pressure of chasing this total down will be immense. For that reason, we expect the Royals to lose an early wicket. Bet on Punjab to have the highest Opening partnership.
Punjab Kings are looking set for a big total with 130 runs already scored in 13 overs. Rajasthan would do well if they manage to keep Punjab below 220. With the likes of Mustafizur and Morris available to bowl at the death, we believe that the Royals will do a better job than projected. For that reason, betting on the total runs scored for the match to be below 220 seems to be the way to go here.
This is a high scoring ground and Punjab Kings would know that they need to post an above par total. They haven't gotten off to a rapid start by any standards and would want to move on from here. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle are absolutely capable to turn it around in any over. We expect PBKS to take off from here and score rapidly in the next few overs. Bet on them having a total of at least 99 runs at the end of 12 overs.
Wankhede is a happy chasing ground and bowling first here means a job half done. On top of that, Rajasthan Royals have a terrific batting unit that can chase down even the tallest of totals. Considering these facts, we are reinforcing our belief that the Royals will win this important match.

Indian Premier League has always been divided between two kinds of teams. There are the likes of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have done justice to the on-paper strength they have. And then, we have the kind of teams who have largely underperformed despite having the on-paper strength.
Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are two such sides that have consistently underperformed regardless of the talent they had at their disposal. This might be the season wherein either of the two sides can turn that notion around in their favor. They both are set to play their opening contest of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League against each other and will be looking to start off with a win.
This upcoming match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings is set to be played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on 12th April 2021.
Rajasthan Royals may have finished at the bottom of the ladder in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, their bottom-most position doesn't truly reflect how close they were to progress to the next round. The difference between the Royals and the Sunrisers, who finished at the third spot, was of only a couple of points. Nonetheless, the Royals ended up with the wooden spoon.
For the 14th season, the Royals have made some radical changes to their side, including some very expensive buys in the auction. They have let go of Steven Smith, who was a mainstay for the Royals for a pretty long time. Also, despite having many experienced players available, the Royals' management has decided to go with Sanju Samson as the skipper of the side.
When the Royals take the field in this upcoming match, all eyes will be on who they pick as their four overseas players. With Jofra Archer absent, the competition for the overseas positions has lightened up a bit, but the final team selection is going going to be exciting. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are expected to be sure starters plus it doesn't really make sense to leave Morris out, considering he was purchased for a record IPL fee in the mini-auction that happened in February.
It will be interesting to see whether the Royals decide to buff up their bowling by picking Mustafizur Rahman or they decide to go all guns blazing by picking David Miller, who seems to be in incredible form at the moment.
Apart from a terrific overseas contingent, the Royals have the decent domestic talent available as well. The likes of Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, and Shivam Dube provide much-needed depth to their batting. With the ball, however, the Royals appear to be a little short. They would need someone to step up to complement Morris, at least in the death overs. If the Royals can find someone reliable with the ball, they would not be an easy side to contend with.

Punjab Kings, formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, will be hoping that the change in the name brings about a change to their fortunes as well. Kings XI Punjab have had a relatively quiet history in this tournament as they still haven't won the title and have made it past the group stage only twice. The last time they did so was in 2014 before they ended up as runners-up.
Punjab Kings certainly would be a happy side with their performance in the auction. They managed to get Dawid Malan, Jhye Richardson, and Riley Meredith and the presence of those three overseas players certainly adds to the depth of their side. Punjab's fast bowling looked a little too over-reliant on Mohammad Shami last year and the presence of two exciting express bowlers will certainly take some pressure off Shami.
Punjab arguably have a batting unit that has an excellent balance of overseas and domestic players. In Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, Punjab's opening pair is second to none. They then have the likes of Malan, Gayle, and Pooran available, all of whom can send the ball blazing right from the word go. They roped in Shahrukh Khan to buff lighten their dependency on the overseas players.
All in all, Punjab Kings is a team full of exciting cricketers, who all can prove to be match-winners on their day. Their young spinners did exceedingly well last year and the same would be expected of them this year. Punjab have a terrific batting contingent and they are certainly over-reliant on it as well. Their fast bowling, although has enough talent, lacks ample experience of playing on Indian soil. The likes of Meredith, Henriques, and Richardson will likely play a vital role for them over the course of the competition and if they come good in the very first match, Punjab Kings will be in business.

As we saw in the first match of this season here, chasing at this venue is extremely difficult. The presence of early dew means that the team batting first needs to score at least 15 runs over par to stay in the game. Not only it is difficult for the bowlers in the second innings here, but the surface also gets easier to bat on as the game progresses. For that reason, the team winning the toss is likely to field first in this match.

This match will be played at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, the same venue as the one in the match between CSK and DC. The two sides were greeted by Mumbai's humidity that time around and the same will be the case yet again. Largely because of the dew factor, the pacers have enjoyed more success here than the slower bowlers.
This stadium has short boundaries and as it is close to the coast, the ball just flies off the bat. Besides, it is going to be a terrific surface to bat and a high-scoring contest is going to be the order of the day.
The team batting first will be looking to post at least 195 runs on the board.

This rivalry between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals is fairly new but is as intense as any. The two teams have often produced scintillating matches and we expect it to stay the same this time as well. Both are loaded with swashbuckling batsmen who call all clear the ropes with remarkable ease. Compared to the two sides on paper, Rajasthan Royals seem to be a slightly better-balanced side with the presence of all-rounders in Ben Stokes, Chris Morris, and Rahul Tewatia. Even though Mohammad Shami hasn't played for a while, the quality bowler that he is is not hidden from anyone. In the last two seasons, Mohammad Shami has picked up 25 wickets in the death overs, a piece of statistics that cannot be ignored. He is certain to bowl at least two overs at the death and given his quality, he is likely to get at least two wickets written against his name.
KL Rahul may have been in terrible form in the recently concluded T20I series against England, he found his way back to business with a brilliant show in the ODIs. He looked in pristine touch and will be itching to carry his form to the IPL. He has all the shots in the book and should easily score a personal fifty against a rather inexperienced bowling attack of Rajasthan Royals.
This is one surface in India where batsmen relish batting regardless of who the bowler is. The ball just flies off the bat and the short boundaries ensure that batsmen get high value for the lofted shots. Also, both teams are light on bowling and heavy on batting. For those reasons, this game is certain to be a high-scorer and we should easily see a match total of over 337.
