This edition of the Indian Premier League is certainly getting interesting with every passing game. We are into the last few league games and as many as nine teams are still in business to progress to the next round. Things will get a lot clearer going forward and this week is going to be mighty important for all sides still in contention.
Up next in the tournament, though, Rajasthan Royals are set to take on Delhi Capitals in a match that would be of significant importance for both these sides. A win for Rajasthan Royals will, in all likelihood, push them closer to a top-two finish and a win for the Capitals will keep them well in the hunt.
The match between the two sides is to be played at the DY Patil Cricket Stadium, Mumbai on 11th May 2022. The last time these two met there was a massive drama in the last over of the match and in cricketing sense, nothing less is expected this time around as well. Given the stakes involved, this one is certainly expected to be a cracker of a contest.
As compared to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals are placed a lot better in the race to the playoffs but would still not want to take things lightly. Another win in any of their three remaining matches should be enough to take them through, provided they do not bottle it completely in their other matches. They have done pretty well in the tournament so far but there will be a few concerns for them going into this upcoming match.
Rajasthan Royals' major problem in the tournament has been the finishing with the bat, something that was overly reliant on Shimron Hetmyer. With Hetmyer not available in this upcoming match, the onus will be on the likes of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson to step up their game at the top. Also, they would need someone to replace Hetmyer and play a similar role and that, by any means, is not going to be easy. We expect Rajasthan Royals to bring Rassie van der Dussen in to play in the middle-order and also include James Neesham in place of Devdutt Padikkal to strengthen the power game in their batting order.
As it currently stands on the points table, the Royals are placed third with seven wins in eleven games. They have 14 points to their name along with an excellent net run rate of 0.326. A win here will push them on par with Lucknow Super Giants and a step closer to the top-two finish. If they are able to play to their potential in this upcoming match, keeping them quiet is going to be a massive challenge for the Capitals.
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, RVD Dussen, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, YS Chahal, Kuldeep Sen.
Delhi Capitals' campaign has been the definition of inconsistency. They have had to deal with several setbacks, both on and off the field, but their performance on-field hasn't helped their cause either. So inconsistent have they been in the tournament so far that they have not won two matches in a row yet. Another case emerged from their camp before the last match and it will be interesting to see if they'll be able to field their first-choice eleven in this upcoming match.
The Capitals are coming off a 91-run drubbing in their previous match at the hands of Chennai Super Kings. The good thing for them though is that they still pretty much have their fate in their own hands and would want to keep it that way by winning this upcoming contest.
As it currently stands on the points table, Delhi Capitals are placed fifth on the ladder with five wins from eleven matches. However, their decent net run rate of 0.15, which is best amongst the bottom-six teams, provides them a bit of an edge as far as qualification scenarios are concerned.
On paper, Delhi Capitals have a side as good as any but they have been pretty poor tactically and performance-wise. They have been pretty inconsistent at the top even since Prithvi Shaw has been unavailable and will need someone to step-up in this upcoming game. Also, the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant have played a couple of excellent cameos, those have not been enough to push them across the line. On the bowling front as well, they have not been able to manage things when under the pump.
All in all, Delhi Capitals have a decent side on paper, but will need to get their execution in order. If they are able to do that, they will be a very difficult side to deal with going forward in the tournament.
David Warner, KS Bharat, Mitchell Marsh, RR Pant, Lalit Yadav, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, SN Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya.
Even though the surfaces are getting slower with every passing match, it hasn't made enough difference to tempt captains to elect to bat first, at least in the evening games. This too is an evening game and the threat of dew making things difficult for the bowlers will be in the minds of both captains. Largely for that reason, expect the captain winning the toss to field first.

This is the venue where most sixes have been scored in the season so far and given the dimensions of the ground and the nature of the surface, we might well see a six hitting fest yet again. The weather is expected to be a bit cooler than what is usually is and the decent cloud cover might keep dew from coming down. Having said that, the team batting first will have to consider the possibility of dew coming down while setting the total. The surface is expected to assist spinners and taking the pace off will be the go-to mantra for the bowlers. Keeping all that into consideration, the team batting first would want to put at least 175 runs on the board.

Needless to say, with the playoffs scenarios getting clearer with every passing match, this is the match that both sides would want to win. It was a hard-fought match when the two sides met last time and we expect nothing different this time too. Considering how the two sides have played and their respective team combinations, Rajasthan Royals seem slightly ahead. Also, they will be confident of doing a double over the Capitals, who might be running a bit low on confidence. For all those reasons and the ones stated above, a bet on Rajasthan Royals win should be the way to go here.
Rajasthan Royals have scored most sixes as a team in this edition of Indian Premier League and with the approach their batsmen have taken, it's not too surprising as well. Besides Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson have done pretty well and will be fancying their chances yet again. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have not hit as many sixes as the Royals. Considering how the things have planned out and the respective batting units of the two teams, a bet on the Royals to hit more sixes is the way to go.
Rishabh Pant has an incredibly good record against the Royals and he did a decent job in the last meeting between the two sides as well. He has gotten starts more often than not and should get it in this match as well. Bet on Pant to score at least 22 runs in this match.
David Warner joined the Capitals late but is still amongst the top run-scorers in the tournament. He has carried the Capitals single-handedly in most matches and will be tough to dismiss here as well. Bet on David Warner to score a fifty here.
