We are into the backend of Indian Premier League 2022 and things are more or less looking all set already. With most teams now capable of ending with at most seven points to their name, a lot rests on Royal Challengers Bangalore as far as the eventual state of points table is concerned. A win for Royal Challengers Bangalore will seal the fortunes for most teams except Delhi Capitals whereas a loss for them will throw the table wide open.
The good thing is that we won't have to wait for long for Royal Challengers Bangalore to play their next game. They are set to take on Gujarat Titans in the next IPL match that is to be played on 19th May 2022 at Wankhede Stadium. Both these sides have had contrasting second halves up until now and will come out into this match for contrasting reasons. Nothing less than a win would do for the Royals whereas the result doesn't really matter for the Titans. Regardless, we expect them both to come out hard in this upcoming match. We expect a cracker of a contest in this upcoming match.
There was a time in the tournament when the Royal Challengers Bangalore were eyeing the top of the table spot but a disastrous second half meant that they are struggling to even qualify for the next round. Even a win here in this upcoming match will not ascertain their place in the playoff, thanks to their poor net run rate.
As it currently stands on the points table, they are placed at the fifth spot, behind the Capitals, with 14 points to their name. They have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.323, but that will not matter if they are able to register a win here and the Capitals lose their match against Mumbai Indians.
The primary reason that the Royal Challengers are in the position they are in is their recent performance in both departments. Mohammad Siraj, in particular, has been terrible in the tournament so far and that has left a huge void in the Royal Challengers' bowling. Also, they do not have as many options with the ball to cover for a bowler having an off-day and that can prove to be a crucial factor in crunch matches. Although Wanindu Hasaranga has been amongst the wickets and is in second in the race for the purple cap, he has not had the necessary support from the other hand. Having said all that, the form that Glenn Maxwell has shown with the ball should be a welcome change for his side.
The Royal Challengers have done slightly better with the bat but with a lot poorer consistency. The opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis has not fired as it should have and that has put additional pressure on their middle order. Although Dinesh Karthik, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Rajat Patidar have contributed, there's only so much you can do after a poor start. The Challengers will be looking upto their most experienced players - Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, to get them off to a flying start.
RCB have one of the better-balanced sides in the tournament and it has been rather surprising to see the performance they have put. Time and again they have punched well below the weight and that is exactly what they would want to avoid in this upcoming match. Considering the side they have on paper, the experience available, and the significance of this match, they would need their seniors to step up here and if that happens, the Titans will certainly have their work cut out.

Not many would have expected Gujarat Titans to not only be the first team to qualify for the next round but also finish at the top of the table. Thanks to an optimal team performance in the tournament so far, they are leading the points table with 10 wins from 13 matches. Along with the 20 points, they have a net run rate of 0.391, which just shows how dominant they have been right throughout the tournament.
The Titans already have a top-spot confirmed already and might well be looking to rest a few of their senior players. While that would present the Royal Challengers with an opening, the Titans will still not be an easy side with, especially given the sheer number of match-winners they have.
Gujarat Titans have only a few names known for their exploits in T20 cricket with most of the players past their prime. Having said that, they have done so well that they have more often than not prevailed over their opponents, even in difficult positions. The likes of David Miller, Wriddhimann Saha, Rahul Tewatia, and Mohammad Shami have won their side a match on their own at least once and that has been the hallmark of this Titans side. Also, the addition of Ravi Sai Kishore has added another dimension to their bowling attack, which anyway has been in excellent form.
Most of the wins that the Titans have experienced in the tournament while chasing or while their bowlers doing exceptionally well with the ball. Before the knockouts, they would want to test how they fare while batting first and that is not going to be easy. While Wriddhimann Saha has been good, Shubman Gill has struggled to pace his innings batting first in the tournament so far. Also, Rahul Tewatia does not have as good numbers batting first as he has while chasing. Besides, we have seen them change their batting order often in the competition and they would want to zero-in on a stable order in the upcoming match.
All in all, the Titans may have done well in the tournament, they would know that they have been a tad lucky. There are a few areas of concern that they would want to address before going into more important matches. If they are able to find solutions to their problems in this upcoming match, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.

This is an important match for the Royals Challengers Bangalore and they will be under the pump. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have not batted well first and would want to try that. Dew isn't going to be a factor as big as it earlier was and batting second will not be a cakewalk. For that reason, expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

With pitches becoming slower and lower after every passing match, batting second is getting increasingly difficult. Having said that, we haven't seen a string of low totals yet in the tournament and given the boundary sizes and the nature of the surfaces, we are unlikely to see those either. Dew is likely to be a factor in this match as well, but that will only negate the advantage that spinners will have. Considering that and the other factors, the team batting first would want to score a total of at least 180 runs on the board.

Virat Kohli may not have been amongst the runs in the tournament so far, he looked at his fluent best in the short stint he had in the last match. He is someone who thrives under pressure and there couldn't be any more pressure on him in this upcoming match. Considering that he has a big match player and need to do well in this match, he will be up for it. Bet on Virat Kohli to score a fifty here.
Gujarat Titans have been one of the better bowling sides in the tournament thus far and they will be threatening in the first few overs. Also, Royal Challengers Bangalore might be looking to take it a bit easy early on. For that reason, bet on Gujarat Titans to have a higher score at the end of the first six overs.
Although the surfaces are slowing down as the tournament is progressing, we are yet to see some real bowling friendly pitches. More often than not, the surfaces have worked well for the batters with the dimensions too working in their favor. We expect that to be the case here as well with dew likely to favor the team batting second. Considering that and the other factors that are often at play at this venue, bet on this match to be a high-scoring one.
