Pakistan Super League kicked off in a spectacular manner as Multan Sultans registered a big win over Karachi Kings in the opening contest of the tournament. Now the heads will turn towards Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, who both are set to take on each other in the upcoming game of the Pakistan Super League. The match between the two sides is to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi on 28th January 2022. Both sides are jam-packed with talented players and should make up for a cracker of a contest.
Quetta Gladiators once used to be one of the most consistent sides in the Pakistan Super League, but a poor run in the last couple of seasons has certainly ruined their reputation. After winning the title in 2019, Quetta Gladiators failed to even qualify for the playoffs in the two subsequent seasons.
Led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, Quetta Gladiators are neither short on talent nor on experience. Apart from the skipper himself, they have the likes of Umar Akmal, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sohail Tanvir who form the backbone of their side. Apart from them, the young yet talented poor of players helps them maintain an immaculately balanced side. The likes of Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah have impressed in recent times and will hold the key for them in this upcoming match as well.
On paper, Quetta Gladiators have a decent side with terrific firepower available in both departments of the game. They are rich in experience and that could be a key in this upcoming match, given that we are still pretty early. They would need their usual suspects in Umar Akmal, Shimron Hetmyer, and Mohammad Nawaz to fire, and if that happens, getting past them could be a very difficult task.
Will Smeed, Ahsan Ali, Ben Duckett, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain, James Faulkner, Naseem Shah, Ashir Qureshi.
Led by Wahab Riaz, Peshawar Zalmi have managed to string together a strong squad for the 7th edition of the Pakistan Super League. The Zalmis gain strength from their swash-buckling top-order that features the likes of Hazratullah Zazai, Sherfane Rutherford, and Tom Kohler Cadmore in their batting unit. Besides, the presence of Shoaib Malik is a luxury that only a few teams can have.
While their batting looks well-packed, they do seem a little light on the bowling front. With Wahab Riaz likely to miss this upcoming contest, their woes with the bat might well be further magnified in this upcoming contest. The likes of Usman Qadir, Sohail Khan, Sameen Gul, and Mohammad Umar will have a job at their hands in this upcoming contest.
On paper, Peshawar Zalmi have a very capable side, but the absence of their skipper is certainly a major miss. Having an inexperienced bowling unit, a lot will depend on how big a total they are able to post. If their batsmen are able to hit the peak form, they have the capability of setting or chasing any possible total. All in all, Peshawar Zalmi will need to be at their absolute best in this upcoming match and if they can do that, getting past them will be incredibly difficult.
Shoaib Malik, Ben Cutting, Hussain Talat, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Sherfane Rutherford, Usman Qadir, Haider Ali, Sohail Khan, Patrick Brown, Sameen Gul, Yasir Khan.
Both these sides will be missing a few key players in the upcoming match and it will be a big opportunity for the youngsters to take the center stage. Both sides have plenty of talent available at their disposal and this could prove to be a cracker of a contest. Considering how the two sides did in the past editions of the PSL and their likely team combinations of paper, Quetta Gladiators seem ahead. For that reason and the others stated above, betting on a Gladiators' win should be the way to go here.
