A loss for Northamptonshire has made things pretty interesting in the North Group points table in Vitality T20 Blast 2022. As many as three teams are tied on 14 points each separated only by net run-rate. There are not many matches to go now and competition is brewing up pretty nicely. One result now can prove to be the difference between qualification and missing out on a playoff spot.
Up next in the competition, Yorkshire are set to take on Northamptonshire in a match that will hold massive importance. Both these sides are still pretty much up ahead in the race for the playoffs and the result of this match may well end up governing their respective final positions. Both sides are expected to come out hard at each other in this match and a cracker of a contest is on the cards. The match is to be played on Friday, 24th June 2022 at the County Ground, Northampton.
Northamptonshire started off their campaign with a couple of back to back losses but then bounced back spectacularly. At one point in time, they were placed at the second spot and were prime candidates to progress to the quarter-finals. However, a few poor results recently have put them in a spot of both and they will need to register a win in this upcoming contest to stay ahead in the pecking order.
As it currently stands on the ladder, Northamptonshire Steelbacks are placed at the fourth spot on the ladder with 14 points to their name. They have won seven matches in total and have a net run-rate of 0.279. Another win here will push them to the top of the ladder, at least in the interim and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
They are coming off a heart-breaking loss at the hands of Birmingham Bears in a match wherein their batsmen played their part well but bowlers were erratic. Batting first, they smashed a total of 211 runs but failed to defend that, losing the match emphatically by six wickets with the Bears having seven balls to spare.
All in all, Northamptonshire have a decent side but their bowling form hasn't helped their cause in the last few matches. They would want to ensure that they get everything right in the match that matters the most. If they are able to play to their potential, getting past them would be a major challenge, even for the high-flying Yorkshire.
Chris Lynn, Ben Curran, Josh Cobb, Saif Zaib, Rob Keogh, James Neesham, Tom Taylor, Lewis McManus, Graeme White, Nathan Buck, Ben Sanderson.
Yorkshire may be languishing in the bottom-half of the points table at the moment, but they can by no means be discarded from the contention. They have played at least one fewer match as compared to most of the teams placed above them. They are coming off a win over Worcestershire and another win here in this match will push them to the fifth spot, taking them right up into the contention for the playoffs.
As it currently stands on the ladder, Yorkshire are placed at the sixth spot, having 11 points to their name. They have won five matches and lost four. In addition to the points, they have a terrific net run rate of 0.930, which can prove to be a crucial factor if it gets tight towards the ends of the league stage.
With a win in their most recent match, which was against Worcestershire, Yorkshire will certainly be brimming with confidence. Chasing a total of 150, they were spectacular with the bat as they chased down the total with five wickets in hand and 32 balls to spare. Earlier with the ball as well, they were pretty good as they restricted Worcs to a pretty chaseable total, given the conditions.
With things beginning to go well for them in the recent matches, Yorkshire have the momentum as well as the confidence. Despite not having Jonny Bairstow at their disposal, they have done pretty well with the bat and will want to continue doing so. If they are able to play to their peak potential coming into this match, getting past them could prove to be a very difficult task.
Adam Lyth, Finn Allen, Tom Kohler Cadmore, Harry Brook, Shadab Khan, David Willey, Jordan Thompson, Matthew Revis, George Hill, Matthew Waite, Dominic Bess.

This is an important match between the two sides as the winner of this match will likely move ahead in the race to the quarter-finals. Both sides have an excellent batting unit that can put any bowling attack under pressure on their day. Handing pressure will be key here and the team that does that better will likely emerge on top. Considering how the two sides have played recently and their respective team combinations, Yorkshire are a better team. They are coming off a big win in their previous match and will be brimming with confidence. For that reason and the others stated above, a bet on Yorkshire win should be the way to go here.
Yorkshire and Northamptonshire both have some spectacular hitters of the ball, making for two terrific batting units but the bowling attacks of them both are not as good. The results of their last few matches are evidence enough for that. Also, this is a high-scoring venue and another contest featuring towering totals is on the cards. For that reason, a bet on match total to exceed 299.5 makes complete sense. An excellent one for those looking to play it safe.
Chris Lynn has been in excellent form and is coming off a quick fifty in the last match. This is a high-pressure game and he would want to make it count here. This is a ground where the ball comes on to the bat pretty well and he should enjoy batting here. Given the form he has been in and the conditions at play, he looks all set to score yet another fifty. Bet on Lynn to score a half-century here.
