Alright then! We are about to get the title winners of Super Smash 2021 and the battle for the trophy is expected to be spectacularly close. After a tussle that lasted for around a month, Canterbury Kings and Northern Districts are the two sides who have made it to the grand event.
Northern Districts and Canterbury Kings will be taking on each other in the grand finale of the Super Smash 2021-22 in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest. The match between the two sides is to be played at the Seddon Park, Hamilton Park on 29th January 2022 right after the Women's Super Smash is concluded. A cracker of a contest is definitely on the cards here.
Northern Brave were undoubtedly the best side in the Super Smash till the end of the league stage. They topped the table with 34 points to their name, coming on the back of eight wins and two losses. Although they have not played for a while now, they looked in terrific touch in their last league match, which was against Wellington Firebirds.
Bowling first on a decent surface, Northern Districts' bowlers did a splendid job as they restricted Wellington Firebirds to a total of just 167. Chasing the total didn't prove to be as straightforward as they would have expected it to be, but they held their nerves in the crunch moments, eventually winning the match by two wickets and having three deliveries to spare.
Northern Brave have a side that is loaded with talent and experience both. The likes of Tim Seifert, Jeet Raval, Colin de Grandhoome, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Ish Sodhi together have wealth of experience behind them and that experience of playing together for New Zealand would come in handy. Apart from those, they have talented players, who have all done reasonably well up until now.
Not only do the Braves have wealth of experience, they are also coming into the match on the back of a superb run and will be brimming with confidence. On paper, their team looks a lot stronger than what it looked like in the league stage. If they are able to play to their potential here, they will be in for a walk in the park even against the high-flying Canterbury Kings.
Katene Clarke, Tim Seifert, Jeet Raval, Mitchell Santner, Colin de Grandhomme, Henry Cooper, Scott Kuggeleijn, Anurag Verma, TG Southee, Ish Sodhi, Joe Walker.
Canterbury Kings were never the favorites to win the title before the tournament started, but they are well within the touching distance of a title finish here. They are coming off a splendid win over Wellington Firebirds, the defending champions, and that win might well prove to be a major boost to the Kings' confidence.
They finished at the second spot on the ladder and made a place for themselves in the final after defeating Wellington Firebirds in the preliminary final. It wasn't an easy job for them against the Firebirds as they were set to chase a total of 191 in the preliminary final. The Kings were perfectly up to the task as they chased down the total nonchalantly in the last over with six wickets in the hands.
The return of Kiwi internationals in Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell proved to be of massive significance for the Canterbury Kings and their performance will be crucial for them in this upcoming match. Apart from them as well, we have seen a number of players step up for them and if they are able to step up their game here, Canterbury Kings will be well and truly in business.
Chad Bowes, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Leo Carter, Cole McConchie, Cameron Fletcher, Henry Shipley, Matt Henry, Todd Astle, Ed Nuttall, Mitchell Hay.

Not often do Northern Districts have so many Kiwi internationals available at their disposal as they have in this upcoming match. They would want to take this opportunity to count by adding a trophy to their cabinet. Canterbury Kings too will be having their full-strength side and getting past them is not going to be easy. Considering how the two sides did in the league stage and their respective on-paper team combinations, betting on the Northern Districts' win should be the way to go here.
