Just when Kolkata Knight Riders were staring down the barrel to an early exit from the tournament, they bounced back with a spectacular win over Rajasthan Royals to announce their candidature for a playoff spot. Make no mistake, though - they are still pretty far from qualification. They need to win all their remaining matches and that is to start from their next game, which is against Lucknow Super Giants, which is definitely not an easy assignment.
Lucknow Super Giants have done exceedingly well and will be eying a top two finish. A win here against Kolkata Knight Riders would put them in a strong position to do so and that is exactly what they will be aiming for. Both sides have strong reasons, albeit contrasting to put up their best show in this upcoming match, and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.

Not many would have imagined the two new teams to be flying high in the points table before the ongoing edition of IPL commenced. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have both been brilliant so far and while the Titans have almost cemented their place in the playoffs, the Super Giants are not too far off. Another win here will push them to a safe spot and that is exactly what they will be striving for here in this upcoming match.
From a total of 10 matches played, Lucknow Super Giants have won 7, totalling to 14 points. They have an excellent net run-rate of 0.397, which is second-best among all sides in the competition. Even though it is unlikely to matter in the quest to qualify for the playoffs, it might well be the deciding factor in determining the top two and Lucknow Super Giants will be wary of that.
On paper, the Super Giants have a side as balanced as anyone can. Almost all eleven players have a secondary skill if we consider wicket-keeping as a secondary skill too. Having a number of options with the ball and a batting lineup that goes deep, the Super Giants can afford to play the slam, bang, wallop brand of cricket. Having said that, the form of their middle-order has been concerning and they will want to get that in order as soon as possible. If they can do that and their bowling does as well as it has done, getting past them could prove to be a very difficult task.

Coming off a win in their last match, Kolkata Knight Riders will be disappointed to be in the position they are in at the moment. At one point in the competition, they were reigning supreme in the top-half of the points table and look well set to progress to the playoffs. However, a losing streak of five matches saw them drop down to the eight spot, which is where they are currently placed.
From a total of 10 matches played, the Knight Riders have won four and lost six. They would now need to win all of their remaining four matches to stand a chance to get to the next round. Alongside that, they would also have to work on their net run rate, which currently stands at 0.060.
On paper, Kolkata Knight Riders have a decent side but the problem at the top of the order has hurt them big time. They have tried the most number of opening pairs and are still searching for a sustainable one. On the bowling front, however, they are looking more or less settled and that was also the reason for their much-needed win in the last match.
Kolkata Knight Riders are in a desperate need of a win and will need their best ones to fire. Frequent chops and changes have not helped their cause thus far and along with winning this match, the Knight Riders would want to find their perfect combination. We have seen glimpses of their brilliance in the last few matches with the likes of Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, and Shreyas Iyer doing well. If they can resolve the issue of their misfiring top-order, the Knight Riders will be in for business big time.

Even though the surface will slow down with the passage of play, the presence of dew will make things even, if not push advantage to the team batting second. This is an evening game unlike the last two games played here that were both played in the day. Dew will be a factor but going by the nature of the surface, spinners should have a good time. The surface has started to take turn and assist spinners as the tournament has progressed and it is likely to be the case here in this match as well. The surface is hard and flat and should make up for an even contest between the bat and the ball. A total of around 170 runs would be about par here and the team batting first would want to put at least 10-15 runs more than that.

This is an important match for both these sides, more so for the Knight Riders as their survival depends on this match. Lucknow Super Giants are pretty much in it and may well decide to experiment a bit with their playing eleven. Considering how the two sides have done in the tournament so far, Lucknow Super Giants are ahead of the two sides. Also, they have a better-balanced team that looks well settled in all departments. Keeping all that into consideration, a bet on Lucknow Super Giants win should be the way to go here.

Since he opens the batting, he will have ample time to get set before going for the big ones. Kolkata Knight Riders have tried five opening pairs in ten matches and none of those has looked settled. Lucknow Super Giants, on the other hand, have a perfectly settled opening pair with Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul both doing well. For all those reasons, Lucknow Super Giants are better equipped to have a higher score at the fall of first wicket.
This IPL has produced more high-scoring matches than the last two seasons did and that can be attributed to the true nature of the surfaces. We are approaching the fag end of the league stage and the string of high-scoring matches is continuing to grow long. We expect this match to be a high-scoring one given the conditions and the batting quality of the two sides and a bet on the same seems to be a pretty lucrative proposition.
