Momentum One Day Cup 2020/2021 has progressed at such a fast pace that we almost have our semi-finalists. There are just three matches to go before the knockouts begin and all of those three matches will likely have an impact on who our semifinalists will be. After a win over Cobras in a recently concluded match, the Warriors find themselves in a decent position. They'd want to make things further difficult for the Cobras by registering a win in their upcoming match, which they are set to play against the Lions on 28th February 2021 at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
Lions have undoubtedly been the best team from 'Pool B' and their flawless performance is evidence of that. They have won both their matches with a bonus point and have 10 points to their name. Besides that, their net run-rate of 0.946 exhibits how dominant they have been.
In the two matches that the Lions have played so far, their batsmen, as well as bowlers both, performed brilliantly. Against the Cobras, the Lions' bowlers played their part to restrict Cobras to 221 before the batsmen chased the total down with six wickets in hand and 64 balls to spare. While their batsmen could not repeat the same kind of performance in their subsequent match, against the Warriors, the bowlers ensured a big win for the Lions.
On paper, the Lions have arguably the better-balanced side among the three teams in their group. With the likes of Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, and Dominic Hendricks at the top, the Lions have a stable and experienced batting unit. Although their bowling isn't as experienced, the bowlers have done exceedingly well for the Lions in the two completed matches. Aaron Phangiso and Bjorn Fortuin have played the leading roles well with the others playing supporting roles to perfection. Given the form and on-paper side, the Lions have, getting past the team isn't going to be easy for the Warriors.

With a fantastic win over the Cobras, the Warriors would be brimming with confidence. This win not only opened their account in the tournament but is also likely to have a telling impact on the final team standings on the ladder. They are now second on the points table with five points in two matches. The positive net run-rate that they have will also help them should things get tied at the end of the group stage.
Just as was the case against the Lions, the Warriors didn't have a day to remember with the bat. However, it was just enough for the bowlers to knockout the Cobras with considerable ease. Batting first, the Warriors scored a total of 226 runs, riding on the fifties by Matthew Breetzke and Sine Qeshile. Rudi Second played a good supporting had but would have been gutted to get out after being set. He, however, salvaged that with a fantastic spell in the second innings as he picked up 3 for 20 in his 6 overs. Along with him, Glenton Stuurman and JJ Smuts picked up three wickets each.
While it is difficult to evaluate a team on the basis of only two matches, it would not be wrong to say that the Warriors have underperformed up until now. They have a decent batting unit, which hasn't really taken any advantage of their experience. The likes of JJ Smuts, Sine Queshile, and Rudi Second would want to extend their innings further after getting starts. Their bowlers have punched above their weight and will be looking to do the same in the upcoming match as well. The Warriors have now tasted success and might not be as easy to deal with for the Lions as they were in the first match.
RS Second, Sinethemba Qeshile, Matthew Breetzke, JJT Smuts, Wihan Lubbe, Marco Marais, Lesiba Ngoepe, Ayabulela Gqamane, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Sithembile Langa, BD Walters.
A lot hinges on the result of this match. A win for the Lions will confirm their berth in the playoffs whereas a loss for them will render the group wide open. The last time these two teams met in the tournament, the Lions won the match comprehensively and are, therefore, likely to be more confident of the two sides. Warriors did well against the Cobras and cannot be taken lightly. Having considered all that, the Lions are a better team on paper and are firm favorites to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
