An IPL season without the regular captain of a team changing is incomplete. We have seen that happen regularly over the last few years and the same is going to happen when CSK takes field in their next game with Ravi Jadeja handing the leadership back to MS Dhoni. The tournament looks well set with most teams still in contention to not only get a playoff spot but also to finish among the top two sides.
The next match in the tournament is to be played between Lucknow Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, a match that would pretty much govern the fate of the two sides. Both sides are well in it to get to the next round but a loss here is something that both things sides would not want to even think of. The match between the two sides is to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 1st May 2022.
With the kind of top-order that they have, Delhi Capitals were one of the most fearsome side to walk into the tournament. Not that they no longer carry that tag, their performance certainly does not go hand in hand with the kind of reputation their batsmen come with. They still have six matches to go but that number might not sound enough if they are not able to register a win in this upcoming match.
As it currently stands on the points table, Delhi Capitals are placed at the sixth spot with eight points in as many games. They have followed the trajectory of lose-one, win-one from their last six matches and will want to impart some consistency to what has do far been a lackluster campaign for them.
Not only on the field have they bottled, the decision taken by the management and the skipper at times have been questionable. Consequently, they have a poor net run rate as well and would want to improve that too as it can prove to be a crucial difference in the back-end of the competition.
Having said all that, not everything is gloomy for the Capitals. Their opening pair, of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw has been as good as any in the tournament so far. They both are quick to get off the blocks and can take the game away in a matter of minutes. Also, they have a decent batting unit with the likes of Axar Patel and Shadul Thakur available to bat a seven and eight respectively. They would, however, need it find a better way to utilise Rovman Powell, whose big hitting skills have so far stayed hidden from the competition at large. Going by the way they have done, they would need to do everything right in this upcoming match. If they are able to do that though, getting past them is going to be an immensely difficult job.

Lucknow Super Giants can consider lucky to be floating in the top half of the points table, especially with the kind of outing they had in their last evening. They lost momentum after a decent start, to an extent that KL Rahul was fuming at the end of the first innings. Their bowlers, however, had other ideas as they managed to restrict Punjab Kings with considerable ease.
Lucknow Super Giants are in a superb position as at the points table and another win here will push them a lot closer to not only securing a playoff spot but also to the occupation of the two two. Besides, their decent net run rate of 0.41 is going to only help them should things get tight towards the back end of the match.
Lucknow Super Giants are loaded with a wide array of all-rounders who lend immaculate balance to their side, regardless of conditions. The likes of Krunal Pandya, Jason, Holder, Deepak Hooda, and Marcus Stoinis are capable of contributing well in all facets of the game. What's more interesting is that balance comes in without comprising with strength in any department of the game.
The Super Giants have a batting lineup that goes deep, allowing KL Rahul to play his natural game once set. Given the kind of squad that they have at their disposal, they can prove to be hard to deal with if they are able to play to their potential.

Even though teams generally prefer to chase in this format of the game, the surface and conditions are still the deciding factors. These are summers in India and fielding first in this heat will test fitness and no team would want to do that. Also, the surface is expected to get slower, though just a wee bit, and there will be no dew to assist the team chasing. Considering that and the other factors, the captain winning the toss is expected to bat first.

We have now seen some relatively low scores being defended in the tournament already and it is just the time of the tournament when teams will be eyeing to defend. The surfaces are getting slower and with weather getting hotter and hotter with every passing match, fielding first could get immensely difficult. Besides, the use of anti-dew agent has made all the difference in the word to how the teams have approached their way about batting first. It is going to be a hot day at Mumbai and surface will offer some sort of assistance to the spinners. It will be a 170-175 kind of a surface a chasing, this being a day game, will not be easy. Anything more than that would be advantage for the team batting first.

This is an important match for both sides, albeit for different reasons. While Lucknow Super Giants will be eyeing to seal a maiden playoff spot for them, Delhi Capitals would pretty much be fighting to stay in the reckoning. KL Rahul is second in the list of orange-cap holders and is as consistent as anyone. He is equally severe on all kinds of batsmen once set and will be looking to bat deep in a match that matters a lot. For that reason, a bet on Rahul to be the best batsman from Lucknow's camp seems to be a pretty lucrative option.
Just as we expected, runs are drying up as the tournament is progressing. This is largely because of the surfaces drying up and spinners extracting turn. Although we expect that to happen this time as well, these two teams are well equipped to handle any conditions. Bet on match total to exceed 309.
