A win for Durban Heat over Paarl Rocks has split opened the tournament. With two games to go for each Tshwane Spartans, Durban Heat, and Cape Town Blitz, there isn't a lot of time avaiable for the three sides. The upcoming match between Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and Cape Town Blitz should clear things up a bit. A win for Cape Town Blitz will certainly put them in a prime position, but a loss here would leave them hanging on the results of the games not involving them and that is not the position they would want to be in. Their upcoming match, against Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, is to be played at the Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town on 6th December. Considering the performance of Nelson Madela Bay Giants over the course of the tournament, it is certainly not going to be easy for Cape Town Blitz.
Cape Town Blitz have had a topsy turvy tournament thus far and are in a very delicate position. They need at least one win from their next two matches to have an outside chance to qualify, two to ensure that. They are second from the bottom of the table with 17 points to their name in eight matches, but if they are able to perform to their potential in their two upcoming matches, it all would change very quickly.
The Blitz are coming off a remarkable win over Spartans in their previous match. Bowling first on a sticky surface, the Blitz's bowlers never allowed the Spartans to get going and despite a useful knock from AB de Villiers at the end, the Spartans were restricted to just 142. Had it not been for Pite van Biljon's superb 62, the Blitz would have had an even smaller total to chase that they did. Wahab Riaz and Dale Steyn were the picks of their bowlers as they returned with the respective figures of 2 for 18 and 3 for 10 respectively.
Quinton de Kock, Janneman Malan, David Bedingham, Liam Livingstone, VD Philander, Mohammad Nawaz, Ayabulela Gqamane, Wahab Riaz, SSB Magala, George Linde, Anrich Nortje.
Arguably the best team of the tourament, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants are sitting comfortably at the top of the points table and are certain of a berth in the playoffs. They currently have 23 points to their name in eight matches with five wins to their name and a net run-rate of 0.68. While their qualification for the next round is certain, they'd love to finish among the top two teams with a win in the upcoming fixture.
The Bay Giants had a teriffic start to the tourament, winning four of their first four completed matches, but failed in their two subsequent matches and were in a spot of bother at one point in time. However, a win over Tshwane Spartans has brought them back on the driver's seat.
In their last match, Ben Dunk played a sparkling knock of 99-unbeaten to guide them to a much-needed win. Bowling first, their bowlers failed to contain the Spartans' batsmen as AB de Villiers and Mulder smashed their bowlers all around the park. However, a couple of relatively quiet overs after AB de Villiers was dismissed allowed them to claw back in the game and that eventually proved to be the difference. Imran Tahir, Tahir was the pick of their bowlers.
Tshwane Spartans looked well set to win the match, but Ben Dunk had other ideas. He, of course was helped by four dropped chances by Spartans, but his innings was fantastic nonetheless. He was helped by brilliant cameos from Ryan ten Doeschate and Marcus Marais. Marais, in particular, was superb as he smashed vital 38 runs towards the end of their innings.

While the two teams have had a pretty contrasting tournament thus far, they have a thing in common. They both are coming off a win over Tshwane Spartans in their respective previous matches. On the basis of their last match's result, it's hard to separate the two sides. Also, Cape Town Blitz have a lethal bowling attack, which can destroy any bowling lineup on its day whereas the Bay Giants have one of the best batting lineups of the competition. Both on the basis of performance in the tournament and the balance of the two sides on paper, Nelson Mandela Bay Giants look better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
