We are down to the last few matches in the Plunket Shield and all of those are going to be pretty much dead rubbers as Auckland have already won the league. Despite that Auckland will be looking to win their remaining matches and facing them is not going to be easy. Up next in the competition, Auckland are set to take on Central Districts. The match between the two sides is to be played at McLean Park, Napier on Tuesday, 5th April 2022.
Central Districts are already out of contention to win the title but they will still feel that they have a lot to play for going into the upcoming match. A win here will push them to the top fourth spot, which is indeed a better position to end at than number five is.
As it currently stands on the ladder, Central Districts have 48 points to their name with just one win from a total of six matches played. The good thing is that they haven't lost too many matches with the loss count and draw count standing at two and three respectively.
On paper, Central Districts are a little too batting heavy and light on paper, which is evident by the results they have posted. They have regularly struggled to bowl opponents out and that might well happen to be the case again. Against a team of Auckland's caliber, they will need to be at their very best. If they can do that, they will be in business big time.
Ben Smith, Greg Hay, Brad Schmulian, Dane Cleaver, Tom Bruce, Bayley Wiggins, Josh Clarkson, Joey Field, Ajaz Patel, William Clark, Blair Tickner, Jayden Lennox.
Auckland last won the first-class title way back in 2015-16 and the title win this year has come as a welcome change for them. With two matches to go, Auckland Aces can now only be equaled at most but cannot be overtaken. Another point here will mean an outright title win for them and that's what they will be aiming for. In fact, they would not want to settle for anything less than a win, given the way they have done.
As it currently stands on the points table, Auckland have won five matches out of their six and are consequently standing tall at the top with 96 points to their name. With the win here, they will cross the 100-point mark and that's what they will be aiming for.
On paper, Auckland have one of the better-balanced sides in the competition but they too will be hit a bit by the players leaving for national duty with New Zealand hosting the Netherlands. Having said that, they have enough bench strength and the regular players available to take on any side. If they are able to play to their potential in this upcoming match, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.
Sean Solia, William O'Donnell, Cole Briggs, F McGregor-Sumpter, Ryan Harrison, Ben Horne, Olly Pringle, William Somerville, Simon Keene, Louis Delport, Jordan sussex, Ross Ter Braak.

This might be a dead rubber from the tournament's point of view, but a win is always of significant importance regardless of the stage the competition is at. We expect both sides to come out hard at each other and a cracker of a contest is on the cards. Considering how the two sides have done in the Plunket Shield so far and their respective team combinations on paper, a bet on Auckland should be the way to go here in this upcoming contest.
