We are down to a final few matches in the league stage of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, and things will more or less get clear with the conclusion of the match between England and New Zealand. At the bottom of the table, however, things are pretty certain with Afghanistan are sure to finish at the bottom of the table regardless of how they fare in their next match, against West Indies, and will be playing to redeem some pride and end their campaign on a high by registering a win in their last game. West Indies, too, haven't been as effective as they were expected to be, especially after the kind of start they had in the tournament but will be looking to add a consolation win to their kitty. With both the sides not really performing up to the standards they'd set, it will be a perfect opportunity for lesser-known players to take the chance and announce themselves. It's expected to be a scintillating contest between bat and ball on 4th July.
Afghanistan were left heartbroken, much like they were in a couple of their earlier games, as they drifted away from their possible first win to a small loss providing Pakistan with another ray of light. They have played eight matches so far and have failed to win any of those despite coming close in May.
Afghanistan have struggled with familiar woes as their batting has failed to fire at critical junctures and such was the case against Pakistan as well. Afghanistan failed to rack up a big score while batting on a good batting surface which eventually came into the picture as it became a hard-tussle for both the sides at the end.
Their bowlers, however, especially the spinners have lived up to their reputation in the tournament and have put up consistent performances throughout. After being bashed by Eoin Morgan, Rashid Khan has bounced back brilliantly with a couple of inspirational performances. Their chief architect with the ball, however, has been Mujeeb Ur Rehman, who has troubled almost all batsmen with his drift, accuracy, and variations.
Afghanistan will be fancying their chance over West Indies in the upcoming fixture and will be reasonably confident. In the last four encounters between the two sides, they've ended up winning three. Overall, Afghanistan have done well in the tournament so far, but not well enough to salvage a win. They certainly have the talent on paper, and if they can produce the goods on the field, they will not be an easy side to deal with for the Windies.

Similar to the Afghans, the men from the Caribbean Islands have failed to produce a consistent performance in the tournament so far. They were brilliant in their opening game, but their journey since then has only been downhill. Unlike Afghanistan, however, they have one win to their name which was in their opening match of the tournament, against Pakistan.
They, too, have come close to grabbing a win on numerous occasions, but have failed more often than not. Earlier in the tournament, they were unable to register wins over Australia, New Zealand, and then failed similarly against lesser-favorites, Sri Lanka.
While their bowling has done reasonably well, barring in two matches - against Bangladesh and then against Sri Lanka, their batting has failed to match the expectations. Injury to Andre Russell rendered their lower-middle order a little weak, but their top-order never did enough for their middle-order to dictate terms.
Chris Gayle has played a couple of good innings, but he has looked like a mere shadow of himself. Nicholas Pooran's knock in the last match would have provided Windies with a bit of confidence, but lack of contributions from the others is still a monumental concern for them. Considering the way things have gone so far for them, it's not going to be easy, but they are still well and truly capable of beating any side on their day.

It's been an exciting kind of tournament for both the sides. Both Afghanistan and West Indies have been in positions to dictate terms in their respective matches, but due to the lack of experience, they somehow managed to relinquish control of the respective situation they were in. While there won't be any qualification pressure in the upcoming fixture, the nerves to win the final match of the competition will still be there. The team which handles the nerves will be better placed to win, and considering the way the two sides have played in the last few matches, we think that Afghanistan are little better positioned than Windies to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
