LEE RYDER
(1959-1991)

Darras Robert Pyron known to adult film audiences as Lee Ryder, died on July 10, 1991, at Chris Brownlie Hospice in Los Angeles. The cause of death was listed as AIDS complications.

Born August 3, 1959 Ryder was raised in Laguna and was graduated from Esperanza High School in Anaheim. His long-standing interest in floral design was put on hold when Mark Reynolds discovered him and featured him in his All American Boys, which, although filmed earlier, was not released until 1983. Ryder's first major release was Falcon Studio's Huge in 1982. The combination of Ryder's chiseled features, laconic demeanor, and prime-cut endowment caused a sensation, and he went on to star in thirteen features between 1982 and 1986, including, The Biggest One Ever Saw, Biker's Liberty, A Few Good Men, Giants I, Hard, Huge II, Screen Play, Spokes, Sticky Business, Two By Ten, and Winner Takes All.

A talented floral arranger, Ryder worked for Grosley's Flowers in Los Angeles, and prepared arrangements for the VIP rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel. He also created floral designs used for set decoration on the TV series, " Dynasty." He later realized his dream of establishing his own company, Pyron Designs, first in Los Angeles, and later in San Francisco.

Ryder's easygoing personality served him well in both of his careers, as well as in his struggle with illness. In a 1984 Stallion  magazine interview, when asked if he thought a lot of men would like to be Lee Ryder, he responded, "I enjoy being me...I guess I'm happy with myself."
