ZIWULIUZHU ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

In this article, the clinical experiences obtained by the veteran physician Guan Zheng-zhai in applying the Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy is briefly recommended. Based on personal experience in studying and practising the Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy, the author introduces concisely the ten methods consisting of the Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy, the five laws guiding acupoint-selection by Najiafa (a synonym for the Ziwuliuzhu therapy in narrow sense) and eight methods commonly used in selecting master acupoints in line with Najiafa. Through the analysis of cases, the article interpretes stress on the five essential factors raising curative effect with the ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy:

1. The theoretical basis guiding the Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy is the doctrine of Zang-Fu and meridians .

2. Differentiation of syndromes (DS) according to the theory of meridians is the principal method of DS by way of Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy.

3. The key factor applying Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy is to select the master acupoints and subordinate ones.

4. Appropriate reinforcing or reducing manipulation is an important factor to achieve succesful result with Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy.

5. It is essential to master the basic principles of Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy and apply them according to circumstances.

The paper is attached to a circular diagram indicating the methods of acupoint-selection in conformity with the Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture therapy drawn by veteran physician Guan Zhengzhai in his early years for reader's reference in the clinical application.
