The presents paper and analyses the therapeutic effect of 752 patients with salt-phil bacillus food-poisoning treated by pricking blood therapy during Aug. 1970 to Sept. 1982. We had observed the effect of once acupuncture treatment within 2 hours and the drugs control group within 1 hour in 50 cases.

Diagnostic basis: 1), Acute vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea with watery or flesh washing stool. 2) Collective dining and collective onsets. 3), Sea-food taking or salted food taking within 24 hours of onset, 4), Laboratory tests coincide with the saltphil bacillus food poisoning and acute dysentery.

Methods of treatment:

Main points: Zhongchong (bilaterally), Shaoshang (bilaterally).

Accessory points: Shenque, Shuifen, Yinjiao, Huangshu,

Reserved points: Zusanli (bilaterally).

Method: Needling the 4 points above-mentioned with the three-edged needle in dotting manipulation, and let the blood be profusely till the color of blood from dark-purple to light red. Most slight cases especially in children could be cured. For severe cases, needling the point around the navel in the meantime. The depth was about 0.25-1.0 cm (1-4 fen) with dotting needling, the glass cupping Jar was applied together with the points Shenque, When the Shenque was congested as a redcherry, and hemorrhage in the 4 points around the navel was striped, the cupping jar was removed. To patients with severe shock, point Zusanli was punctured with a needle of 0.7-0.9 mm in diameter, and with the depth of 1.25-2.5 cm (5-10 fen) with an injection of atropin of 0.5-1.0 mg and a hot stupe was applied to the abdomen and loins.

Effects of treatment.

1. Standard:

Cured: abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting did not appear. Blood pressure, temperature and pulse normal.

Effective: Diarrhea ceased, but any one of the above symptoms remained. Ineffective: More than two main symptoms remained,

2. Effects in 752 cases, cured: 725 cases (96.41%), Effective: 24 cases (3.19%), Ineffective: 3 cases (0.4%) the total effective rate was 99.6%,

3. Observations of the controlling groups. Under the same condition of diagnosis and effective standards, the pricking blood group and drugs administrating group (with terramycin by mouth), (654-2 and emol injection intramuscularly) were observed with 50 cases of each group respectively. The results were: In the 50 cases of pricking blood group cured 41 cases, effective 8 cases, effective rate 98%. In the 50 cases of drugs administration group cured 2 cases, effective 18 cases, the effective rate was 40%. In comparison: the effective rate differ significantly (p<0.01)

At the same time in the observation to the main symptoms as abdominal pain and vomiting relieving period. The pricking blood group relieved in 1-10 min with 41 cases (82%). The drugs group were 2 cases (4%). With the relieving time of 30 min, the pricking blood group were 49 cases (98%). The drugs group were 14 cases (28%) compared with the relieving time of 60 min. The pricking blood group were 49 (98%) in drug group were 20 cases (40%).

In comparison with in three periods, the difference was predominantly great, (P<0.01). It expressed that the therapeutic effect of the pricking blood group was higher than that of drugs group.
