TREATMENT OF CALCULI OF URINARY SYSTEM WITH ACUPUNCTUREQiu Maoliang, Sheng Canruo, Jiang Caiyun, Zhao Yumei (The Hospital of Nanjing College of TCM, Jiangsu) Of these 54 cases, 41 cases were male and 13 cases female; their age ranged from 21 to 57 years and their course of disease, 1 week to 15 years. X-ray examination: Stone shadows were revealed in 53 cases and no shadow, in 1 case. Urinalysis: The various amounts of RBC, WBC and albumin were presented in all of these cases, and hematuria was found only in 9 cases by maked eye. 13 cases were diagnosed as renal calculus; 11 cases, calculus of upper part of ureter; 24 cases, calculus of middle or lower part of ureter. There were 6 cases affected with disorder of renal calculus to be accompanied with ureteral calculus. Principles of Treatment:For acute attack, the principles such as eliminating dampness, removing heat, expelling stone and stopping pain were applied; and in the usual time, invigorating the kidney and strengthening the functional activity of the urinary bladder were applied. For those cases with the calculi of upper part of ureter, these points as Shenshu, San-jiaoshu, Jingmen, Tianshu and Qihai, were mainly used; and for that of lower part, Shenshu, Ciliao, Pangguangshu, Zhongji, Shuidao were used; and for such patients with bad dampness and heat, yinlingquan, Sanyinjiao, Weiyang were added, and with deficiency of Kidney yin, Taixi was added, and for those with definciency of Kidney yang, Mingmen and Guan-yuan were used. On abdomen or back, points were punctured on affected side, while on the lower limbs, both sides were applied. There were 3-5 points to be punctured once daily and these needles were retained for 40 min.; in the time of retaining performed manipulation for 1-2 times. Moxibustion was applied when patients had the syndrome of deficiency of kidney and 10 times of moxibustion were taken as a course; if no other complaint against moxibustion, treatment might be continued to be applied. For those patients with acute attack of renal colic, Shenshu and Jingmen might be used. When these stones had been expelled and no shadow was shown by urography, the disease was regarded as to be cured; and when the stone shifted to the lower part of the ureter which was considered to get improved; and when condition of stone remained no change, this treatment might be considered as a failure. The total number of stones of the 41 patients were counted as 61, 31 stones of them were expelled (including renal stones 5, ureteral stones 26), the condition of 12 stones got certainly improved and 18 cubes of stone got no effect. The largest stone expelled had a diameter of 1.5X1.0 cm. The shortest of time needed for stone to be expelled out was 4 days. In all, the effect of treatment had close relationship with the constitution of patients and methods of treatment as well as the location, dimension and size of the stones. |
