Source of Acupoint:

On the basis of clinical treatment of hypertension by auriculo-acupuncture, we selected some better points affecting blood pressure by using statistical treatment and analysis on the date of encephalorheogram, heart rate, blood pressure and low resistance point of 124 cases 856 acupoint times before and after auriculo-acupuncture.

Groups of auriculo-point: (1) Anti-hypertension point group - e, gan, xin, erjian, shang ergen. (2) Antihypotension point group - e, gan, xin, tingzhong, qiejixia. (3) Random point group - penmen, shi'erzhichang, xiaochang, jiejienei, shenmen

Group of test objects: Blood pressure measurement diagnosis and groups divided were undertaken according to the requirement of the discussion meeting held by Hypertension Expert Committee of World Health Organization in 1977, and the measurement method of blood pressure and the standards of hypertension, hypotension and normal pressure of our country revised in 1979.

Test method: Cross test were undertaken on hypertensives, hypotensives and normal persons, and vasodilators were taken as control.

Test Result:

(1) Anti-hypertension point group had an obvious anti-hypertensive effect on 250 cases of hypertension after one time of auriculo-acupuncture (P<0.01), meanly dropped by 22/16 mmHg (systolic/diastolic pressure). Auriculo-acupuncture antihypertension for 45 cases of normal persons made no sense (P>0.05). The blood pressure of 12 cases of hypo-tension raised by 7.7/6.4 mmHg meanly after auriculo-acupuncture. (2) Anti-hypotension acupoint group: The affection on the blood pressure of 25 cases of hypertension and 10 cases of normal person was not significant (P>0.05). But for 10 cases of hypotension, the blood pressure raised remarkably (P<0.01). (3) Random point: The affection on hypertension (25 cases), hypotension (30 cases) and normal pressure (10 cases) were not statistically significant. Drug test had remarkable anti-hypertension effect on the 3 groups of persons (P<0.01 - 0.001).

Conclusion: Auriculo-acupoint has relative specificity. Antihypertension or antihypotension by auriculoacupuncture produces bidirectional adjustment without side effect. But anti-hypertension by drugs is single-way non-selective.
