It is discussed in this article that the spinal operation was performed on 115 cases, among which 85 are male and 30 female in the ratio of 2.8 to 1. The oprative positions included cervical, lumbar and thoracic vertebrae. Operations involved exploratory operation of vertebrae, laminectomy, mass excition, intervertebral discexcision, nidus excision, and fixing device removal, etc.

On the basis of acupuncture anesthesia the operations were divided into two groups, water injected group and drug injected group, and Jiaji acupoint was selected along the pathway of channel, combined with the location of nerves. Before the operation, both groups were given, as a rule, intramuscular injection 0.1 luminal, and the dosage of dolanlin less than 1 mg- per kg. of the body. For drug injected group, the dosage of 0.1% procaine not more than 100 ml or 0.25% procaine not more than 60 ml could be used. The result was that 91 cases were of grade I and II, (79-1%), among which the water injected group was 86% and the drug injected group, 77.6%. Some people felt reactive pain when skin in cision was performed, less did when bone-resection was performed.

Personal Experience

I. Jiaji acupoint with small dosage of drug makes the operation successful both in making up the imperfectness of the acupuncture analgesia, and in avoiding the bad effect caused by using too much drug, because acupuncture anesthesia needs a small dosage of drug.

II. The spinal operation, particularly the exploratory operation, needs the patients' coordination, relating the site of pain. Patients were conscious with acupuncture anesthesia and a small dosage of drug on part of the body doesn't affect the exploration. It is desirable to give play to their strong points with the two combined.

III. Jiaji acupoint belongs to urinary bladder channel of Zutaiyang, and is transferred site of "qi" from the viscera and channel, and can also reflect the function of the internal organs and treat the pathological changes of the corresponding internal organs. This group of acupoints can get better results.
