With the non-trauma method, like the function picture of the heart, we determined the left ventricle function of 106 case of normal persons and 100 cases of heart diseases. An observation of the change of the left ventricular function was performed before and after acupuncture. The point selected was left Neiguan. Acupuncture was done with the method of slow twirling. The needle was retained for 20 minutes and the needle was rotated once or twice. The heart function pictures were compared before and after acupuncture.

The result was that the LVETI (the index of the left ventricle ejection time) lasted after acupuncturing Neiguan point in 100 cases of the heart diseases, and PEPI (the index of pre-ejection period time) was cut, PEPI/LVETI decreased, (P<0.05). The result from above showed that the contracting function of the left artrium of the cardial patients has been improved after acupuncture, while there are no prominent changes in the picture of heart by acupuncturing Neiguan Point in 106 cases of normal persons. The two results above are in accordance with the theory of the traditional Chinese medicine about points Neiguan, Xinjing and Qili in the promotion of the meridian and Qixue through the whole body. It plays and important part in the dredging, leading and spreading, and adjusting the function of the viscera for keeping the internal environment relatively stable.

Compare the coronary heart disease patients with normal persons with cardiac pictures The PEPI, PEPI/LVETI of the coronary heart disease patients increased significantly (P< 0.01). It shows that it may have some value using the function picture of the heart for diagnosing the coronary heart disease.
