CLINICAL APPLICATION OF THEORY OF MERIDIAN

The theory of meridian is a main part of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. This paper explorates the essence of meridian, the relation of meridian and viscera and the relation of meridian and Qi (vital energy) and blood. Meridian connects the human body as a whole. Clinical application of the theory of meridian is used for diagnosis and treating disease. The author's experience are as follows:

1) Disease of an internal organ may be treated by needling points on its own meridian. For example, analgesic rate was 70%, when the point of Liangqiu was used to treat 20 cases of stomachache.

2) Selection of point along the course of meridian: e.g. in 1972 in Morocco, the author used this method curing a painful left elbow Joint - after the trauma of gun - of Ap-toola, the brother of the king Holsan. The course contained 20 times.

3) Application of the theory of meridian for diagnosis.

4) Selection of the external points to treat the internal visceral disease: For example, the effective rate was 90%, when the author used moxibustion at Sanii to treat diarrhea caused by hypofunction of spleen.

5) Selection of point in upper-lower respondence: Select the point of the foot for treating the disease of the head. Select the point of the head for treating the disease of the foot.

6) The method of "Ju" inserting point: Select the point of the right side of the body for treating the disease on the left side and vice versa. This is the effective method for treating apoplexy and facial paralysis.

7) The method of inserting point of collateral; It is a method for treating the disease of collateral. Superficial needling is effective for treating facial spasm.

8) The method of selecting point of Renmai and Dumai: It is effective for treating bodyache and emotional disease.
