ACUPUNCTURE EFFECTS TO GASTROPTOSIS

The Gastroptosis group and X Ray Department

According to the principle of traditional Chinese medicine "where feels pain, where is the point". We have observed and analyzed the therapeutic effects with the long needle to treat gastroptosis of 108 cases which have been treated unsatisfactorily through Chinese medicine combined with western medicine for a long period of time. Acupuncture treatment and the methods for diagnosis: The patient lay on al bed. We used the penetrating insertion from Juque towards the tenderness at the left side of umbilicus for forty minutes. All cases in this article were only diagnosed under X ray film of barium meal examination (to measure the number value from the angle of stomach, the lower border of curvature ventriculi major, to the connecting line of iliac crest) and the specific standard to Judge the therapeutic effects.

The effects in treatment

1. According to the value of gastroptosis, the curative rate obvious were 31.48% the effective rate was 58.33%.

2. The degree of gastroptosis: After treatment, the degree of gastroptosis had very obvious improvement (P<0.001).

3. The muscle tension in the stomach: Through 35 cases in treatment, it prompted that acupuncture might produce certain promoting function to the muscle tension in the stomach. (P<0.05)

4. The clinical symptoms also had corresponding improvement. Through the follow-visit, the long-term effects had a slight decrease but still kept up certain therapeutic effects-

Analysis to the therapeutic effects

1. There were no differences between the therapeutic effects and the direction of insertion or between admission in the hospital and out-clinic treatment, but the therapeutic effects were closely reacted with the needle sensation (P<0.001). SO after insertion, the needle reaction (the arrival of Qi) should be gained in order to raise up the therapeutic effects.

2 Immediate effects: after acupuncture treatment, we could immediately compare with the film of barium meal examination between before acupuncture treatment and after the treatment. There was very obvious effects to the value of gastroptosis (P<0.001). There were also differences to the degree of gastroptosis (P<0.05). But there were not obvious to the muscle tension in the stomach (P>0.30).

5. The immediate effects while the patient lies on the bed for rest; the patient was not allowed to receive any acupuncture treatment but lying on the bed for 40 minutes according to order. Then the comparison was made between before and after rest. There was also a difference with the value of gastroptosis (P<0.01).

At the same time, there were no differences between the degree of gastroptosis and the muscle tension in the stomach.

4. The therapeutic effects through three different methods of examination e.g. the barium meal examination, the method that a thin layer of barium attached around the wall of the stomach in order to get a general picture of the stomach, and ultrasound examination. Besides the routine gastro-photography with barium meal examination ultrasound after drinking, and the examining result of the method that a thin layer of barium attached around the wall of the stomach, drinking the warm-boiled water 300 ml. when the patient was empty in stomach. Then swallow. 1:1 barium meal 10 ml should be done.

From the view of the value and degree of gastroptosis to manifest the effects of treatment, barium meal the method that a thin layer of barium attached around the wall of the stomach ultrasound. This indicates that different examining methods have different effects.
