April 2006

A little background

As some people may have realised I have
Been busy making contacts on myspace.com
Under my e mail address off
- [email protected] on top of putting
people through the misery of my
Bands 'Distance' , 'DIH', 'M.A.N.' and
'B.A.N.'

Of course when listening to lots off music
On myspace.com what does happen as I
Have began to realise is people / bands
Have began contacting me asking me
To place them on my list as friends.

Sadly this does involve receiving notes
From tons of wankers - I must have
Rejected about ten so far from the usual
Indie shite already, but Purrmachine
Were something else altogether honestly.

Comprised as a core off Betsy and Kevin,
They are a Los Angeles, California (USA) band
Which I am guessing at by the look of things
Probably know my friend Mera from Mercurine
And perhaps in a way remind me of Mercuine
Expect kept reminding me of prime Siouxise
And the Banshees mixed with Nine Inch Nails
More which rocked in my mind totally.

So I emailed the band and much to my surprise
This interview came back bloody quickly -
Something like within a few hours which certainly
Is a record for 'Setting Sun' considering I am
Normally used to acts taking months to send
Interviews back to me - I could name two
Cases alone which took more than 6 months
To do the interview (but those were worth it,
Let me tell you but that is another story)

And here it is...

For more information on the band - please
Look on their myspace.com page which is

Cheers again guys

Setting Sun:
How are tricks and what are you up to at the
moment?

Purrmachine :
Hey! Things are going great with us! We're
just finishing our record "Starry" which will
be coming out on Pandaimonium Records, a
German Label. Here in the states we
will be releasing it independently.

Setting Sun:
Next, can you tell us all a little bit
about the history off Purrmachine - i.e -
how you all met up or who fired the starting
pistol for be it of a better word.

Purrmachine :
Betsy was in Caterwaul, and they
were breaking up, and she was looking
for new players.

A mutual friend told her I was
available as a bassist, and we hooked up
that way.

We went through several different line-ups
during the last several years, until we
found the line-up we have now, which we
are really happy with- guitarist Byron
Brown and Kevin Pinnt from Caterwaul on
drums.

Setting Sun:
What are your influences and what music
are you listening to at the moment?

Purrmachine :
Influences are too many to list, it's not
just one genre, music from the past
to the present, it's all inspirational if
it's good.

Setting Sun:
Do you play concerts or if you don't how
You approach it?

Purrmachine :
We have always considered ourselves
a live band, even though we haven't played
out in the last year, because we've been
working on this record, but we will be
playing some shows in the very near
future, so LOOK OUT`!

Setting Sun:
In relation to your concerts (if you
play live dates) How does this compare
to your recorded material? Is there one
you prefer over the other?

Purrmachine :
After playing a great show, there's a
sense of, Yeah, all right! It's
such a high, but there are always
cerain elements on the recorded
material that you capture, they are
so totally different, and both
have special aspects.

Setting Sun:
What is also the inspiration behind your
name 'Purr Machine' - I usually like
to have a little guess
behind the inspiration and I must
admit that one has got me completely
stumped... so can you please enlighten
us..

Purrmachine :
Good, we like to leave it open to
interpretation, but yes there is a
meaning behind it. So guess away!

Setting Sun:
I think my favourite song of yours that I have
heard to date is one available on your
myspace page "Speak Clearly" - Can you tell
us a little bit more about this song - where it came
from etc..

Purrmachine :
Betsy tells me that when she was a child,
she had big teeth and didn't enunciate
very well.

People would tell her to speak clearly,
hence the name. She had big old bunny teeth!

Setting Sun:
What's next for you all? Do you have any more
recordings planned etc?

Purrmachine :
Always, we are always recording, and working
on new ideas, so we have plenty in store.

A video as well.

Setting Sun:
Where are you from all by the way? Have you seen
any good concerts recently?

Purrmachine :
We live in Los Angeles, California,
just the other night we saw
"Sisters of Mercy", they were great!

Setting Sun:
Anyway, a couple of light hearted questions
for you to finish off with, firstly,. What would
you like to do when you are 60?

Purrmachine :
Be able to touch my toes.

Setting Sun:
What will you be doing when you are 60?

Purrmachine :
The exact same thing I'm doing now, but with
more money.

Setting Sun:
Lastly, hacking a question one of my
friends used to use in her Magazine,
if you were stranded on a desert island
with a record Player (although I could
be tempted to let you upgrade it to a
CD Player if I was feeling nice), what
5 records what you choose to
have with you?

Kevin:
David Bowie-Heroes

Gary Numan-The Pleasure Principle

Killing Joke-Killing Joke

The Cure-Faith

Cocteau Twins-Treasure

Betsy:
Sisters of Mercy-First & Last & Always

Gary Numan-Replicas

Dandy Warhols-ThirteenTales
from Urban Bohemia

Led Zeppelin-III

Tears For Fears-THe Hurting
(AND ONLY THAT
ALBUM BY THEM)!
