Setting
Sun:
How are
things and what are you also up at the moment?
Things are fine thanks, we are just continuing to write songs and demo little things here and there. When we can get stuff to sound to our liking, we will probably put some more stuff on myspace.
Setting
Sun:
Next can
you tell us a little bit about the history of
your
music and as I like to say sometimes, who fired the
starting
pistol?
Kinora
Viewer:
Well, we have played in bands before but decided to get together and do something a bit more "lo-fi" if you like. Rather than worry about getting things to sound perfect and technically brilliant, we thought it would be great to record straight to tape at home and not worry about paying people in a studio to make it sound polished. To be honest, a little bit of tape noise makes things sound ok and not too cold.
Setting Sun:
What are your influences and what are you listening to the moment?
There is some fantastic music on myspace at the moment, our current faves are The 48k, who make lovely sounscapey night-time music, Telerobot, who specialize in minimal, glitchy electronica and also a band called Thee moths who are very much a big influence.
Setting
Sun:
I have
being listening to your songs on myspace.com
a fair
bit recently in particular 'the aral sea' - can you
tell us
a little bit more about this song as I would be
interested
in knowing what or where the aral sea
is for
example?
Kinora
Viewer:
The Aral sea is in cental asia and it was about just liking the sound of the words, there are no real lyrics, just an improvised vocal really. It's an area where there have been immense environmental problems but that seems to be changing now thankfully.
Setting Sun:
Out of interest, What's next for you? Do you have
Any gigs lined up / perhaps even some more recordings?
Kinora
Viewer:
A Kinora viewer is a very old device for looking at moving pictures. It's a bit like a revolving flicker book of photographs and a powerful lens is used to see them. The pictures are moved by using a handle to turn them around. We liked the idea of naming ourselves after something so archaic as we felt it reflected our low-tech approach to making music.
At the moment we have no gigs lined up, recording is always on the agenda though and is a constant process by which we can explore new ideas and find out what doesn't work as well!
Setting Sun:
I know you are from the United Kingdom (already where
I don't know where) but where are you from in the UK?
To any good gigs recently?
Kinora Viewer:
We are from the West Midlands and the last good gig of any real note that we
went to see was Low at the academy in Birmingham. They were fantastic, a real
inspiration.
Setting Sun:
Anyway, a few less serious questions to finish off with,
Firstly what would you be your dream job if you were not a
Rock and roll star?
Kinora Viewer:
Hmmm...that's a tough one...busking probably. It'd be interesting to see if people
Would pay to hear our tunes, maybe they would pay to make us keep quiet...
Setting Sun:
What would you like to be doing when you are 60?
Kinora
Viewer:
Still making music.
Setting
Sun:
Lastly, What will you be doing when you are 60?
Kinora Viewer:
Still making music...possibly on Mars though...
