Adam's Worst Winners in Reality Television History

#1. Flo Pesenti of The Amazing Race 3
Zach is not included in this "award." In fact, Zach is likely to show up in the best winners category for winning while putting up with his partner (Flo). She routinely threatened to quit, she constantly screamed at him even though she was the one holding the team back, she really didn't help the team at all, and she annoyed viewers. The team never did well in the standings (mainly because of Flo holding Zach back) and in the end, I have no idea how they won. In fact, prior to the final leg they had only come in first once (and that was with the help of a fast forward).

By far the worst crime that Flo committed was her constant desire to quit the race. She didn't do this that much early on but when they were really close to the final finish line (and a million dollars), she suddenly wanted to throw away everything they had done previously. I've counted three times that Flo wanted to quit but there might even be more. The first time came when the duo knew that they were in last place and would be eliminated. Flo basically quit and Zach had to practically carry her to the finish line. All the time she whined about how they were last and how they shouldn't even check in. Zach kept trying to convince her that it might be a non-elimination leg. He was right. Flo admitted that what she did was wrong but it obviously didn't deter her from doing it two other times.

The next time came in the FINALE (yes, she threatened to quit when she was a few hours from the money-twice actually). When she found out that she would have to take a twenty-four hour train ride, she called it torture and said she wasn't getting on the train. She eventually got on the train when Zach was able to purchase seats on an air-conditioned portion of the train. Almost right after the train ride, Flo was upset with the "difficulty" of rowing a boat (it was bowl-shaped but still). When she found out that they were paddling to the wrong island, she got upset and once again "wanted out of the game." They decided to quit this option and go for the other one. However, Flo decided that she wasn't going to help paddle back and made Zach help her. When they got to shore, Flo wouldn't talk to him and at first refused to try the bike option. She eventually consented but when she found out that the bikes had large baskets attached to them she freaked out again. Flo again said she was finished but Zach saved the day (again) by hiring some local help. They easily came in last place that leg but were once again saved by it being a non-elimination leg.

Flo pledged to try harder in the final leg but she still showed signs of quitting. She told Zach that if they couldn't find plane tickets to their next location, they should buy tickets back to their hometown. She didn't realize that it was possible that the others couldn't find tickets or that there would be another flight afterwards (that would allow them to catch up). In the end Zach saved the day again and they eventually won the whole thing.

It wasn't just the quitting that was bad. She constantly yelled at Zach even though he repeatedly saved the team. In challenges, he did most of the work but Flo still thought he should do more. If he made a mistake, she would rip into him. If she made a mistake, she expected him to be nice to her. She rarely thanked him for his help but always found time to criticize him. She was so annoying that the team wound up with a 31% approval rating on CBS.com. That would have been lower if the voting was for individuals not teams. Zach was overall a good guy that probably got really high ratings. If Flo was rated alone, I expect she would have gotten 5% or lower.

The sad thing is that I actually had to think hard about who to place at #1-Vee or Flo. At first, I actually had Vee in the first spot but I eventually remembered Flo's threats to quit and that put her over the top. Both of them were worthy of the #1 spot and that goes to show how bad some of the winners of reality tv shows have been.

#2. Vecepia Towery of Survivor: Marquesas
I hate seeing Vee as a winner so much that I even had to address the issue in Neleh's top 25 contestants introduction. It was that bad of a decision. Three voters voted out of spite towards Neleh and handed the million dollars to one of the least deserving Survivors of all-time. Neleh had proven herself far superior in politics, challenges, and friendliness. However, she had done the unthinkable-form a counteralliance. Those three Rotu members couldn't stand the fact that Neleh didn't let them have the money. That is why Vee won and that is definitely worthy of #2 on this list.

Both Neleh and Vee wouldn't have had a chance of winning had Neleh (along with Kathy) not realized that the Rotu 4 would stick together. The Rotu 4 had foolishly given out their order of elimination in a reward challenge. The two girls took the opportunity and banded together the rest of the contestants to overthrow the majority alliance. That was possibly the biggest move in Survivor history (and easily the biggest power change). That should be enough for victory right there. However, three of those members of the majority decided they would be poor sports and vote for the person that didn't backstab them quite as much. Only Zoe was man enough to vote for the person who played the best game. One of the three even asked a question that implied that Neleh shouldn't have done anything and let the Rotu 4 waltz into the final four.

She wasn't the most lovable contestant either. She was usually pretty boring to watch but she also could lie with the best of them. Lying isn't that bad (in my opinion) but when you lie because "you know God will forgive you," that is wrong. When you combine that with the fact that she beat one of the better finalists in Survivor history, it is obvious why she is on this list.

#3. Chris Judd of I'm A Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here
Whoever won this show was guaranteed a spot on this list. All of them were whiners and nobody deserved to win. The only thing keeping Judd from the number one spot was the fact that he was one of the better choices to win (just because almost everybody else was annoying).

The players of this celebrity rip-off of Survivor wouldn't have lasted a day on the real thing. They did practically nothing. When they had to do something, they usually complained. After the first challenge, they all complained that they were too tough (despite the fact that the Fear Factor crew would laugh at the simpleness of it). When they found out that it rained a lot in the jungle, they whined (and threatened to all leave) until they got tarps to cover each and every bed. They made several other requests and they were almost always granted. In what was supposed to be a survival show, the contestants were almost living in luxury. Chris didn't do all that much whining himself, but he reaped the benefits.

In addition, Judd didn't really have to do much to win the game. Since the audience was the only vote, the win pretty much went to whoever was most popular (or sucked up the most). Judd was one of the more famous names in the cast of no-names and he constantly sucked up. I don't think being popular or sucking up is grounds for a victory. He should just be lucky he isn't higher up this list.

#4. Amber Brkich of Survivor: All-Stars
Amber only did a few things that warranted a spot on this list. For one, she beat a much more deserving player that did everything he could to get her to the finals. She also was boring enough in her first season of Survivor that she didn't deserve a spot on All-Stars.

Amber wasn't that terrible of a strategist. She often suggested things to Boston Rob and she managed to save herself despite being the only player to switch tribes. However, she was definitely no Boston Rob in that regard. Boston Rob may have been one of the most deserving finalists in Survivor history. He formed a solid alliance and did what was necessary to bring it to the final four. Amber usually just sat and rode Rob to the final four. She did win quite a few immunities though. Still, Boston Rob was much better and deserved to win.

To make it worse, Amber really didn't even deserve to make it to All-Stars. Elisabeth (Survivor: Australia) and Colleen (Survivor: Borneo) both declined and I am guessing that she took that spot. She was probably cast in the "sweetheart" position. Still, I would have rather them skip that spot and add a much more deserving player like Christy, Helen, Neleh, Gina, Kelly (Survivor: Africa), Teresa, Mad Dog Maralyn, or Kelly (Survivor: Borneo). If you didn't even deserve a spot on the show, you definitely don't deserve to win the game.

#5. Jenna Morasca of Survivor: Amazon
There are several reasons why Jenna is more than deserving of a top five slot on this list. She beat out a much more qualified final two opponent. She was very unlikable. She didn't really do much strategically. She wanted to QUIT (and in fact did quit in her second appearance on Survivor). If that isn't enough to earn a spot on this list, I don't know what is.

Let's start with her lack of strategy. She was very close to being eliminated early because of her laziness. She also alienated all of the older women by bathing in the nude and only hanging out with the "pretty girls." Had Rob not kept switching back and forth between alliances, she likely would have been gone around the merge.

Matt (her final two opponent) was also more worthy. He did so much more around camp. Jenna did almost nothing. He won a lot of challenges (although she did too). He was likable but a little crazy, she was very unlikable. Only Butch was wise enough to give it to the more deserving player. Finally, nobody deserves to win if they wanted to quit. Quitters shouldn't win. Unfortunately one did this time.

#6. Dat Phan of Last Comic Standing 1
I didn't actually watch this season but from his performance on Last Comic Standing 3, I can tell that he is worthy of this list. Unless season three was a complete choke job from Dat Phan, he was definitely not deserving of the title of Last Comic Standing champion. That honor should have went to Dave Mordal (unless season three was an anomaly for him).

All the comics had a few good moments but Dat Phan just couldn't stand up to some of the other heavyweights. How he won is anybody's guess. I've heard rumors that he won because he was a member of the minority alliance and the fans wanted him to win because they hated the other alliance. If that is true, that is a dumb way to vote in a talent contest. The winner should be someone who makes you laugh not someone that you necessarily like.

Dat Phan didn't make it that far in season three. He made it about half-way before finally being eliminated. That clearly showed that he wasn't as funny as the rest. Meanwhile, season two champ John Heffron made it to the final four. Dave wound up in second place to the always funny Alonzo Bodden. I really think that if the fans had voted with their laughter rather than their hearts, Dave would have won season one. Therefore, Dat Phan deserves a spot on this list.

#7. Jun of Big Brother 4
Jun was part of the worst final two in reality television history. On one hand you had the obnoxious and mean-spirited Alison. On the other hand, you had the manipulating Jun. Jun was the lesser of the two evils but that isn't enough to keep her off this list. She lied, manipulated, and insulted all the time but she was definitely not as bad as those three things as Alison.

Jun constantly made fun of most of her houseguests. Jee (her ex-boyfriend) received the brunt of that. She even made fun of one of the most likeable players in Big Brother history; Jack. To make matters worse, most of the time this was in confessional and not in front of the person. I absolutely hate those people that make fun of others behind their backs. Don't be a coward. If you don't like something about someone, tell them.

She was also a chronic lier. I do like some mastermind strategists but Jun took it over the top. She had several alliances and seemed to break one every other week. She also made a deal with the devil; Alison. Anybody who aligns with that witch is automatically one of my enemies. Her personality earned her a 40% popularity ranking on CBS.com. That is pathetic. That stat alone is enough to propel her to #7 on this list.

#8. Freddy & Kendra of The Amazing Race 6
What is up with all these recent contestants making this list? Freddy and Kendra easily made this list because of two reasons-they should have been kicked out in episode seven and they were two of the most vile people reality television has given us.

Let's start with the most obvious reason-the fact that they should have been kicked out of the race. Most reality shows have very few rules. I'm sure in most of them, there is a law that you can't threaten bodily harm to someone. Freddy did just that in the seventh episode. When the train museum opened, a hard gate opened. Unfortunately, that gate fell back down and hurt both Freddy and Hera. After racing to get a number for the next task, Freddy went bonkers. He said something to the extent of "when I find out who did this, I will snap them in two." He was yelling so loud that I am sure several of the racers feared him. I certainly would have. To make his case even worse, Hera (who received a more serious injury) didn't complain at all. Freddy just got a little boo-boo and he went crazy. At the very least, he should have been kicked off the show for threatening the other contestants. Kendra didn't do anything wrong in this situation but she was certainly no angel either.

Kendra was the most racist individual to ever appear on a reality show (that I've seen at least). Every time they went to a third world country, she would complain about how "they don't stop breeding" or "how they choose to be poor." She even insulted them after they had just gotten out of a tribute to slavery. She was the definition of classless. She claims that it was a product of editing and that she was really defending the poor and complaining about their governments. That might have been the case one of those times but I highly doubt that that was the real reason all three times.

Freddy got away with something that I think was ten times worse than something that got a Big Brother contestant expelled. Scott (of Big Brother 4) was kicked out for tossing chairs. They weren't even aimed at anyone in particular. Sure it was a little weird but I don't think it is as bad as threatening to snap someone's neck in half. So for winning instead of being kicked out, Freddy and Kendra get a nice spot at number eight on this list.

#9. Kelly Perdew of The Apprentice 2
This one may be a little controversial because the runner-up was also really bad. Both the finalists were so bad that I could rattle off several people I would hire before them in both seasons (S1-Troy, Kwame, Amy, Bowie, even SAM; S2-Andy, Bradford, Kevin, Pamela, Raj, and Sandy). If the second person eliminated is better than the winner, that is enough evidence for this list. But we will explore the issue a little deeper.

First of all, I think Kelly did an even worse job on the final task then Kwame (whose team managed to lose Jessica Simpson and alienate Donald Trump). All he did was sit on his computer and make spreadsheets (why you need spreadsheets for a polo match I don't know). I know that some of the fired members were probably tough to work with but Raj, John, and to a lesser extent Elizabeth ran wild when they were supposed to be working. Raj pretty much goofed around the entire time. A good manager makes sure his labor is working. He also failed to monitor infighting within his team. Raj and Elizabeth got into a pretty nasty argument and Kelly didn't really do much to stop it. He also had Raj paint the logo in a place that would scare the horses. Finally, he didn't even think of giving Mr. Trump a clean chair. That is absolutely unacceptable. You do not give your boss a disgusting chair to sit on.

Kelly did step up as project manager three times though. However, I really don't think he did much in any of those tasks. The first time he led was in the ice cream challenge. This one required very little leadership ability. All the teams had to do was pick an ice cream flavor and sell it. Still, fights erupted about whether the team should eat or not. Kelly quashed the argument early but those kinds of fights shouldn't happen. His corporation managed to win the task (basically because of the ice cream flavor which Kelly didn't come up with). He next led his team in the wedding gown task. He won again but he owes the entire victory to Sandy. She should have been the one earning the exemption. He did NOTHING. Since Sandy is in the wedding business, he basically handed her the reigns and did nothing the entire task. In his third and final chance to lead, he actually did a halfway decent job. The task was to create a new pepsi bottle. It looked unique but I still don't think one task is worthy of a hiring.

    #10. Kimberly of Wickedly Perfect
The show ended less than a week ago but Kimberly is an obvious addition to this list. In a show about creativity, she showed she had none by doing one of her projects not once, not twice, but three times. You would think that these people would be just a little bit more creative. In addition, she is one of the few people to be eliminated once yet still win the game. She completed the trifecta by beating the most qualified candidate in the finals. I'm not even sure if she did anything right.

Let's start with the infamous ribbon flowers. She used them twice on individual projects and was nominated for elimination both times (and was eliminated once due to them). You would think that that would be enough to get through to her that they just weren't that good. No luck; she decided to use it for her demonstration once she got back into the game. I'm shocked she didn't make her topiary look like a ribbon flower. You think there was no way that the judges would let her move on with her stupid flowers. Wrong again. The judges thought it was the best performance of anyone. That is insane! A perfectionist is supposed to have at least a little creativity in them. By doing something three times in a row (basically), she proved she doesn't have a single creative bone in her body.

Secondly, she was eliminated once (due to her ribbon flowers). Pretty much anybody that wins despite being eliminated is going to make this list. If she hadn't been nominated several times before being eliminated, I would have given her a second chance. However, she was nominated at least three times. Somebody like Darlene deserved a second chance (only being nominated once and falling due to an alliance). Not Kimberly. To make it worse, the judges didn't even seem to hold it against her. If you are going to bring somebody back, at least be a little tougher on them.

Finally, she beat out a much more qualified candidate in Mitch. Mitch had shown himself to be a brilliant creator throughout the entire show. He never was nominated. He was the leader of both teams he was on. He cut off part of his finger but still was able to finish a project. He made some of the most creative things I saw on the show. He threw a much better party. He was a much better talker. I don't think Kimberly had any edge on him whatsoever. Yet the judges still named her the champ. It is extremely ridiculous and had this list not been so competitive, she would have been much higher. However, she is lucky to *only* claim #10 on this list.

#11. Armed Response of Extreme Dodgeball
I absolutely hate cheap tactics. This team definitely used any loophole in the rules to their advantage. Their cheating actually caused the inclusion of a new rule the next week. It led to both unfair and boring gameplay in what was once the most exciting professional sports league.

The tactic in question involves the five-second rule (they can't have two balls for five seconds in a row), the centerline, and a ball. Knowing that a member of the other team would have to come up and get the ball if it was placed over the centerline, David "The Animal" Benedetto did just that. He repeatedly placed one ball in arms reach over the centerline. As the five seconds ticked by, a member of the other team had to go get it. When they made a break for the ball, Benedetto quickly picked it up and threw it at the sitting duck. They would get the ball back and repeat the same tactic over and over again. It couldn't be stopped. Nothing the other team could do would work. Luckily, the other team was actually the originator of this tactic (although he only used it once; if this move is used in moderation it is ok in my mind). Michael "Handsome" Constanza used it against Armed Response and actually won the game for his team. As you can imagine, this made for an extremely boring game and was quickly made illegal.

Still, Benedetto found ways to bend the rules. One of the rules of dodgeball says that when you are down to one member, if you can survive for twenty seconds, your entire team is "regenerated." One game, Benedetto was the last member remaining. Since he has such a strong arm, he kept throwing the ball against the other teams wall just to get it back (he had to avoid the five second rule and this worked). The other team couldn't really risk trying to catch the ball because one of those throws could have led to a nasty injury. It was yet another example of bending the rules. Thankfully, he only did this once (of course, he was rarely the last man standing so that could be why).

This team was talented (though still not better than CPA on a good day) but they just bent the rules way too much.

#12. David Holmes of Dream Job: Season 2
This guy was so boring that I couldn't even find a picture of him to place on this list. Even worse, he beat the second most talented person to ever appear on Dream Job. He wasn't terrible; he didn't mess up much but he just was so boring. He beat out several other worthy competitors to make the final two and then America for some reason decided to crown him champ.

He didn't even make the show based on an audition. He got his spot by becoming "Wendy's Wild Card," which I believe is based on finding a gamepiece on Wendy's food. Last season, the "Wendy's Wild Card" was voted off the first time he performed. I'm almost tempted to think that Wendy's bribed ESPN to let him progress. He was that boring.

I don't think Holmes has even appeared on ESPN yet. That is yet another bad sign. The previous winner (Mike Hall) is now the star anchor of an entire ESPN network. The difference in talent between the two is very large. For beating several other deserving players and being one of the most boring reality personalities of all-time, Holmes definitely deserves this spot.

   #13. Jamie of Superstar USA
Jamie is on this list because Superstar USA was based upon finding the worst singer. With a "win" like that there is no doubt that Jamie would make this list. To make it worse, she thought she was a star with a spectacular voice. It gets even worse-Jamie actually wrote the lyrics to the songs on her hand and thought that the judges wouldn't notice!

While she was bad, I don't think she even deserved to "win" her season. Mario, the dancing machine with great moves like the always popular spin, had the worst voice and look of anyone on the series. As you will see throughout this list, a lot of people are on it because they stole the win from someone in the finals who was far more deserving. It definitely isn't the only reason Jamie is on this list but it certainly helped.

For someone with such a terrible voice, she certainly felt highly of herself. She compared herself to Britney Spears (not that that is too hard to achieve) and seemed to think that she was in for a long future in the music industry. Very few people made this list because of a huge ego but Jamie did.

"Winning" a spoof show (that I watched) pretty much guarantees you of a spot on this list. Jamie got lucky and only landed in the thirteenth spot.

#14. Sandra Diaz-Twine of Survivor: Pearl Islands
I hate to put Sandra on this list because I really did like her. However, she did not play the game well and didn't really deserve to win. She did deserve to win over her final two competitor (Lillian) so that gets her a few points and keeps her relatively low on this list. She was also likable so that helps her out as well.

Sandra was aligned with Rupert and Christa pretty much from day one. She pretty much just hung on to the two of them and rode them to the jury. She wasn't great in challenges so she was often marked for elimination. She also argued a lot which really got on peoples nerves. Had it not been for Rupert and Christa, she might have left the island before the merge came. After the merge she continued to stand on the sidelines as Rupert and Johnny Fairplay added allies to their side. Unfortunately, the large alliance that Drake had formed had to eat one of their own early. Rupert, one of Sandra's main allies, was the victim. Actually, a large part of it was due to Sandra. Sandra had accidentally knocked Rupert out of the running for immunity. Had he won immunity, he would have stuck around and the threesome would have continued on in the game. Rupert was pretty much the anchor of the alliance so it was a huge loss.

Sandra did recover quite nicely by inadvertently "framing" fellow ally Christa. After Rupert's elimination, Sandra threw away a whole bucket of fish caught by Rupert in anger. This actually helped keep Sandra in the game but spelt doom for Christa. She also grew a habit of listening to other people's conversations in the bushes. She learned a lot of information that helped her in the game. Unfortunately, that is all she did that merits mention. She somehow managed to survive to the final four where she was kept (mainly because she was weak) for the final three. She lost really early in the final three challenge and would have been voted off had Lil been thinking strategically. Lil pretty much handed Sandra the million dollars by bringing her to the final two. The only reason this was true was because Lil had already been eliminated once. She was brought back in the outcast twist. Almost everybody in the game hated the twist and would never think of giving the million to one of those brought back.

Sandra did end up winning the check in a blowout. Many of the jury members even noted that it was pretty much a vote against Lil, not a vote for Sandra. She even admitted that a large part of her win was because of luck. Having good luck is not a strategy. Therefore, Sandra definitely deserves this spot as the fourteenth worst winner of all-time.

    #15. Anthony of The Family
Anthony is one of only two players on this list to be eliminated once yet win the entire game. That would be enough for him to be near the top of this list but he made a great decision that made everyone in the game a winner. Still, I can't get past how he won the game despite being eliminated. Even worse was the fact that he won the game over my #3 contestant of all-time.

Anthony was the son of Aunt Donna and Uncle Michael. The three of them pretty much dominated the game early on until the others banded together against them. Anthony was the first of these three to go. He was put up for elimination after Aunt Donna chose to save her husband (Uncle Michael) from nomination. Anthony went up against staff favorite Cousin Mike (who incidentally was the one constantly being targeted by the three). The staff (who chose who would stay and go) adored Mike and were sometimes annoyed by Anthony. It was an easy decision and Anthony was knocked out of the game.

However, when there was only one player left (Cousin Mike) the rest of the family was allowed to vote another member back into the game. Most of the group chose to bring back Anthony because they felt he was good in challenges and wanted to give him a chance to prove himself (it also didn't hurt that he would probably share the money). The challenge was two parts. The first part was an obstacle course filled with eating, swimming, and puzzle solving. The winner would get a "significant advantage" in the final challenge. Anthony stunk in the challenge and Mike dominated him. The next challenge was supposed to test "trust" but it really ended up as a challenge of luck. There were three safes and one had the money ($1 million) in it. Mike would get two chances (since he won the previous challenge) to find the money. He would also get to ask Anthony two questions (basically pointless). His questions were "Which safe has the money in it?" and "Are you lying to me?" Of course, Anthony ended up lying and fooled Mike into picking the one he had said contained the money. He wound up winning the game and breaking the hearts of almost all the viewers.

What made it especially sad was the fact that Cousin Mike was unlikely to get any money out of it. You see, Anthony had the chance to either keep all the money for himself or split it up in anyway he liked. Almost everybody assumed that he would split it in nine ways (leaving out Mike from getting any of the fortune). However, he redeemed himself by splitting it in ten ways (even to Mike). Still, it isn't enough because Cousin Mike should have been the winner of the show (and he most likely wouldn't have split it with this family, he would have given it to his own family). Had they brought the person back earlier on (maybe in the final five or so), Mike would have won the game. Anthony did absolutely nothing to deserve the win. He was eliminated once, won no challenges, and acted like a jerk for most (but not all) of the game. Those aren't the qualities of a real winner.

Who should have been first on this list?

Vecepia
Chris Judd
Amber
Jenna Morasca
Dat Phan

Dishonorable Mention

Dorothy Hui of The Mole: The Next Betrayal
The major reason she is named as a dishonorable mention is that she was basically given the win. The Mole is a show where most of the players have to figure out who is sabotaging their games. Whoever answers the most questions correctly on the quiz wins the game. Dorothy was an incredibly smart player but she just couldn't figure out who was the mole. She could solve any puzzle that they threw at her but the mole eluded her. That was until fellow competitor and friend Heather told her that she suspected Bill (who ended up being the correct choice). Dorothy had previously been close to elimination several times (I believe she survived on a tiebreaker once). She had picked three or four contestants before Heather tipped her off. Unfortunately for Heather, her blabbing lost her the game. Dorothy won because of Heather. That is why she is a good choice for a dishonorable mention.

   Eddie McGee of Big Brother
The original Big Brother season can't even really be compared to the newer seasons. It was a game of very little strategy. It was pretty much a game of popularity. I don't think being popular is a reason someone should win so Eddie definitely deserves this dishonorable mention. He wasn't a terrible guy or anything (other than his constant insults of Chiquita the dog), it is just that he didn't really do anything and wound up richer. Whoever won that season was likely to make this list anyway.
