Binary Channel Selection M1-M8 are called data lines and M9-M12 address lines. When channel information is needed by the radio, it places a binary 1111 on the address lines and raises the HEAD STROBE line to about 2.2 volts The channel number minus one is encoded in binary on M1 through M6 (M1 is lsb) Lines M7 and M8 are held low to indicate binary encoding.

1 of 12 Channel Select
This configuration is common to the clamshell heads. Ground the mode mode select line for the desired channel (M1-M12) to select it.
Group M5 M4 Channel Bank
A 0 0 1-8 1
B 0 1 9-16 2
C 1 0 17-24 3
D 1 1 25-32 4
Selection of Mode Banks

Final Note - Since the M1-M12 lines are bidirectional, care is taken to prevent their being tied high or low. In that way, other heads can also utilize the bidirectional data. However, if the channel select head is the ONLY , that warning becomes mute. Channel select heads designed for use with the Syntor X radios are noted by inclusion of diodes for this purpose.
