ORDIE PICTURES!
This is not a fully loaded A-6, it only has 22 MK-82 500 pund bombs. The A-6 when it was in service could hold 30 MK-82s if you removed the landing gear doors because they got in the way. The pod in the backgound is a LAU-10 rocket pod loaded with four 5 inch ZUNI Rockets. This was in preparation for a airshow before we pulled into port after a six month cruise aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). Sept 1988.
This is the product of two A-6E aircraft Of VA-75 The Sunday Punchers dropping the 22 MK-82 Bombs they were carrying one after another, it is called a "Wall of Water".
Here is a few members of VA-72 The BlueHawks awaiting the return of their aircraft so they can load the inert BDU-45 500 pound practice bombs. The aircraft in the back ground is an A-7E COSAIR. We called them the "Fleet Harleys" Why cause they made alot of noise and always leaked something!
This was a Det (detachment) to NAS Fallon in 1989. This det was mainly a bombing det. They were giving us a brake on this launch because all we had to load was MK-76, 25 pound practice bombs. We would load about 12 per aircraft using two Mers (multiple ejector racks). You can see a Mer and MK-76s loaded in the bottom right hand corner.
Here is a close up of a MK-76, it is loaded ao a MER. Believe it or not these are the most dangerous bomb to Ordies because they always underestamited the bombs potential to cause harm or even death!
