Since january the 1st, 2001, and until january the 1st, 2003, Romania is the new President of OSCE (Organisation for Securite et Cooperation en Europe - Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe).
The President of OSCE in all this time will be Mircea Geoana, the smartest, most experienced and highly trained member of the new Romanian Government and Administration.
Mircea Geoana was the former Romanian Embassador to United States between 1992 and 2000, and since november 2000 he has been named the new External Affairs Ministry of Romania.
As President of the OSCE, Romania intends to deal closer with the situation in Kosovo, engage in heavier peace-talks between Russia and Tchetchenia, increase the security status in the Balkans, status which is already at a very high level only due to Romania's huge peaceful and calming presence in this explosive region of Europe, and also push the Organization forward for the addmission of new members and a closer cooperation with NATO and the EU.
As President, Romania will also satisfy some of the Western Europe's countries' requests, as the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden, The Netherlands, Italy and especially France are very strong in their wish to transfrom the OSCE in a form of "European Only NATO" and to disengage from the current NATO Alliance, in order to form a European Only Armed Forces and Anti-Terrorist Peace-Keeping force.
Also, Romania will continue its programs for upgrading of the Armed Forces and will contribute with even more troops, equipment and medical staff to world's and especially Europe's future conflicts and wars.
