Under Construction!

--------------------- Banderas -------------------------

The first, brand new, Bell UH-1H Iroquois of a batch of 5(?) arrived in February 1970. Subsequently 8 were received in June 1973 and 7 more in November 1974. Some 6 more surplus US Army followed latter from civilian sources, as Bell 205A-1, due to the embargo.

As part of the Equipo de Combate Cóndor during the Operativo Independencia AE-411 was lost due to ground fire on May 5, 1976.

Nine, maybe ten, were lost during the Falklands/Malvinas war, some of them captured, out of around 16 used. AE-406 and AE-409 can be seen at the Museum of Army Flying (Middle Wallop) while AE-422 can be seen at the FAA Museum (RNSA Yeovilton).

Most of the remaining UH-1H are in service in the Grupo de Helicópteros de Asalto 601 where they perform the transport role. Those in the Escuadrón de Aviación de Exploración y Ataque 602 perform the gunship role and are equipped with the locally built CITEFA 105 mm Yaguarete sextuple rocket launcher. A few more are in use with the Sección Aviación Ejército 9, 11 and 12.

Circa 1993-94 some 12 ex US Army UH-1H were delivered. Some 20 more ex US Army UH-1H were supposed to be delivered in 1997. In total, some 40 remain in operations.
