HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN

*** USA 1991 Colour ***

Genre: Action / biker / heist / gunfight

Directed by: Simon Wincer

"WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH...
THE TOUGH TAKE THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS."

Drifters Harley Davidson (Rourke) and the Marlboro man
(Johnson) help an old friend save his bar by robbing the very
bank trying to take over the property. But this is no ordinary
bank and the armoured car is filled with drugs, not money!
Now Harley and Marlboro become the objects of a ruthless manhunt
by the corrupt bank's deadly and unstoppable henchmen. High
speed custom motorcycles, exploding action and state of the art weaponary form a deadly combination in this futuristic action
film. "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" is my favourite
movie of all time and for this reason I have taken the time to
create this page. The story is set in 1996 with a great storyline
and real actors! The movie is fast paced and has some amazing
action scenes. Issues covered in the film affect normal day
people at least once in their lifetime or everyday. I think many people could relate to the film. Another sucess for the film
is the choice of music score. I feel the music fits each scene
of the film perfectly and I still get pins and needles when I see
the very begining! I also really like the ending. When
Harley picks up that hot hitchiker and casually burns off
into the sunset. Thats what style is all about! In my opinion,
this is a movie which deserves to be watched by everybody.

Almost everyone who visits this page wants to know more about
the custom harley above that is used in the movie.
I dont know too much about this bike but I found a website all about it. You should check it out, click here!
Apparently the Bike is called Black Death and was made by Genes Harley Davidson in the US according to Greagin.

Here are some specifications on the bike:

Make: 1989 Harley Davidson 1200 XL Softtail Custom
Model: FXR
41mm FLH fork leg with dual old style rotors
6" riser with drag bar
JB brake, with 2 start/off & horn switch only.
5b gal softail gas tank.

For more specifications email Daniel Chow.

There were actually two bikes built for the movie because
the first bike barked up so much that it wouldn't idle.
The bike was actually not made for the movie. Mickey
drew the bike up on a cocktail napkin and when the producers
saw the idea they thought it was perfect for the movie. The other
interesting fact is that the seat has no padding what so ever.
It was a custom built seat made by taking a piece of sheet
metal and attaching a piece of leather to it by velcro. The
tank graphic was designed by Mickey himself and the artist is a secret. The initials on the cards stand for a special friend in Mickey's life at that time. The final product ended up the way
it is because Mickey walked in about half way through production
and said "That's exactely what I want!".

Modifications: An FXR frame with a hardtail conversion,
they took the rear shocks off and welded metal tubing
instead. The front end is raked 30 degrees.
They cut the bike neck and pushed the forks foward
in the front end to stretch it out.
Chrome time, they put more chrome on this
bike than a million mag wheels! Its engine has also been
modified, 120 cubic inch stroked. Finally they put an extra
fat tyre on the back and added drag pipes to the exhaust
for that extra deep note we love!

If you need anymore info on the bike try contacting Bartels
studio rentals or Bartels Harley Davidson both out of
California or You can find info in the July 1995 issue of
Hot Rod Bikes magazine. Otherwise talk to Barry who knows so
much more about it than me.

So there you go. By the way David in America has built
a replica, so if you have any other
questions please send him an "email".

There is also a lot of interest in getting leathers
similar to those used in the movie.
You can special order the jacket from the movie
with custom patches from Bates leathers for about 700 to
800 dollars American according to Barry.
