His mother-in-law, Deborah Hathaway, was a direct descendent of Richard Warren and Francis Cooke, Mayflower passengers. His father in law, Jireh, was also a descendent of Francis Cooke - in fact his in-laws were 3rd cousins. He moved to Acushnet to "read medicine," and stayed to practice medicine. He built on the west side of the Acushnet river, near the head, and lived there until he died. His house was torched by British troops, but in attempting to stimulate the fire with mattresses, it was smothered and the house saved (1778). [PERRY.TXT]
