Sarah3 "Sally" Ford (Jacob2, James 1) born 11 April 1815, Rockbridge County, VA, died 1 February 1844.1 On 31 March 1837, she married James H. Wilson, son of John and Nancy (Hall) Wilson.2 Rev. Andrew B. Davidson officiated.3 After her death, he married, 23 February 1847, Martha E. Hall, daughter of James Hall. 37 i. Martha4 A. Wilson (Sarah3 Ford, Jacob2, James 1) born c1839. 38 ii. John4 S. Wilson (Sarah3 Ford, Jacob2, James 1) born 1 January 1844, died 6 January 1844. 15 iv. Joseph3 Ford (Jacob2, James1) born 20 October 1818, Rockbridge County, VA, died July 1898.4 On 23 May 1844, he was wed to Susanna Cunningham. Susan was born 12 October 1818, and died 7 January 1905.5 She was a daughter of John Cunningham. Joseph Tolley died testate.6 "Mr. Joseph Ford died at his residence in the Hackings neighborhood last Wednesday, aged about eighty years. Owing to his extreme old age, he had been very feeble for several years, hence his death was not unexpected. The deceased was a plain unassuming man and in all relations of his life was strictly honest and was highly respected by his friends and neighbors. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Susan Ford, and three children, Mr. Jas. P. Ford, Mrs. Reynolds, and Mrs. Saville Tolley. Rev. D. A. Penick conducted the funeral services."7 Joseph and Susanna had the following children: 39 i James4 Preston Ford (Joseph3, Jacob2, James1) born 1 February 1846 Rockbridge County, VA, died 12 April 1909.8 James died near Hogback Mountain, Rockbridge County, VA. He married 23 November 1876, Henrietta Tolley.9 James farmed for a living. Henrietta was a daughter of James Preston and Mary Martha (Taylor) Tolley. She was born c1846, and died c1928 in Clifton Forge, Alleghany County, VA. She lies in an unmarked grave in New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rockbridge County, VA. 40 ii. Jacob4 H. Ford (Joseph3, Jacob2, James1) born c1847 Rockbridge County, VA. He evidently died before arriving at adulthood. 41 iii. Nancy4 J. Ford (Joseph3, Jacob2, James1) born c1850 Rockbridge County, VA. She evidently died before arriving at adulthood. 42 iv. Caroline4 S. Ford (Joseph3, Jacob2, James1) born c1855, married 26 April 1876, James D. Tolley, D. A. Penick officiated at their wedding. James was a son of James P. and Mary Tolley.10 43 v. Sarah4 Catherine Ford (Joseph3, Jacob2, James1) born 22 June 1860, died 9 December 1931.11 She married 1 July 1869, William "Calvin" Reynolds.12 16 iii. James3 Ford (Jacob2, James1) born c1822 Rockbridge County, VA, married 26 November 1846, Margaret "Emily" Wilson, Rev. William W. Trimble officiated at the ceremony.13 He was a farmer. James and Emily had at least one child: 44 i. Hugh4 P. Ford (James3, Jacob2, James 1) born c1848. 17 iv. Margaret3 Ford (Jacob2, James1) born c1824 Rockbridge County, VA, died 25 Feb 1892.14 On 5 March 1853, she married Andrew Y. Glover, A. B. Davidson performed their nuptial rights.15 Andrew was born c1828, died 28 March 1904. Both are buried at Collierstown Presbyterian Church Cemetery in unmarked graves. He was a private in Company C, 14 VA Cavalry, CSA. "Died--Glover- near Collierstown, VA, Thursday, February 25th, Mrs. Margaret Glover, wife of Andrew Glover, aged 68 years."16 45 i. John4 B. Glover (Margaret3 Ford, Jacob2, James 1) born 15 July 1855, died 16 January 1911,17 married 14 December 1878,18 Martha Virginia Black, Thomas Briley officiating. Martha was born 4 June 1858, died 31 March 1916.19 18 v. Caroline3 Ford (Jacob2, James 1) born 2 February 1829 Rockbridge County, VA, died 30 October 1866.20 On 14 March 1861, she was wed to John S. Moore, A. L. Hogshead officiated at their marriage. John was a son of Samuel and Sarah Moore, and was a farmer by occupation.21 + 19 v. Thomas3 Ford (Jacob2, James1) born 1829 at Sugar Creek Rockbridge County, VA, died 27 January 1903. On 8 April 1869, he married Sarah "Sally" Cunningham.22 Sally was born in 1827 and died in 1903.232 She was a daughter of Jacob L. and Susan (Trimble) Cunningham. "Mr. Thomas Ford died at his home in Lexington at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, aged 73 years. Mr. Ford was blind. In his youth he accidentally put out both his eyes. In one case it was done with a table fork which he was using to untie a shoestring; in another it was done with the cracker of a whip. He was taught the trade of a matressmaker and followed that through life except for a while when he engaged in running a country store in Buffalo district. He was born on Sugar Creek, near Collierstown, and was the son of Jacob Ford. He was well known and widely connected in the western part of the county. He removed to Lexington from the county something less than 20 years ago. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and his funeral services took place from the church this afternoon at 3 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. Dr. Whaling, officiating, and the interment was made in the cemetery here. His wife preceded him to the grave only a few weeks. He is survived by four sons and one daughter."24 46 i. Percy 4 S. Grover4 Cleveland Ford (Thomas3, Jacob2, James1) born 9 July 1885 Rockbridge County, VA.28 On 25 December 1905, he was wed to Nellia J. Entsminger, daughter of W. E. and M. F. Entsminger.29 Nellia was born c1887 in Alleghany County, VA. Grover was living at Clifton Forge, VA at the time of their marriage, and was a painter by occupation. William N. Mebane performed the ceremony. 20 vii. Esther3 A. Ford (Jacob2, James1) born c1832, married 26 Feb 1857, Samuel L. Wilson.30 21 viii. Mary3 Elizabeth Ford (Jacob2, James1) born c1835, died c1905 in Wolcott, White County, IN. On 15 December 1852, she married Adam Unroe.31 (See the chapter regarding the Tribbett family for further details). 22 ix. David3 "Houston" Ford born 25 September 1837, died 1 July 1893.32 On 30 November 1865, he was wed to Eliza Jane Tribbett.33 Eliza was born 19 December 1844, and died 17 January 1892.34 She was a daughter of William and Patsy (Montgomery) Tribbett. David served in the 1st Rockbridge Dragoons, Company C, 1st Virginia Cavalry, CSA. 51 i. Lula4 Virginia Ford (David3, Jacob2, James1) born 23 December 1866, Rockbridge County, VA.35 52 ii. Kate4 M. Ford (David3, Jacob2, James1) born 28 July 1871 Rockbridge County, VA.36 53 iii. Hugh4 G. Ford (David3, Jacob2, James1) born 27 May 1874, Rockbridge County, VA.37 54 iv. Scott4 M. Ford (Jacob2, James1) born 30 March 1840, died 1 February 1844.40 12. James2 Ford, Jr. (James1) married 28 October 1800, Ann Standoff. 24 i. John3 L. Ford (James2, James1) born c1801, married 21 August 1827, Jane Peerman, Henry Ruffner officiated at their wedding.41 He married second, 2 March 1855, Ann Gaylor, Rev. Andrew B. Davidson officiated at their wedding. Ann was a daughter of Edward Gaylor.42 John was a laborer. 56 i. William4 Ford (John3, James2, James1)born c1834. 57 ii. Winston4 Ford (John3, James2, James1) born c1842. 24 ii. James3 Ford (James2, James1) married 10 March 1825, Betsy Standoff, V. M. Mason officiated at their wedding.43 Betsy was a daughter of Henry and Hester (Hyman) Standoff. She was born c1805 in Rockbridge County, VA. James died previous to 1850 in Rockbridge County, VA.44 On 1 December 1851, Elizabeth was appointed as guardian to her children: William, James, and Rachel Ford, orphans of James Ford, deceased.45 On 1 October 1855, Elizabeth again qualified as guardian to her underage children, James and Rachel Ford.46 (See Chapter regarding the Standoff family). 58 i. John4 Ford, (James3, James2, James1) died previous to 1850.47 59 ii. Margaret4 Ford (James3, James2, James1) born c1830, married 7 August 1850, Madison Clark, Rev. Andrew B. Davidson performed the ceremony.48 60 iii. Mary4 Jane Ford (James3, James2, James1) born 1833, died 1905.49 She married 7 October 1851, Nicholas C. Carter.50 61 iv. William4 A. Ford (James3, James2, James1) born 25 June 1835, died 22 November 1924.51 He married 1 January 1856, Mary Ann Moore.52 Mary Ann was born 11 December 1834, died 18 December 1875.53 She was a daughter of James Madison and Mary Moore. After Mary Ann's death, he married 3 April 1879, Sallie J. Jackson.54 Sallie was born 13 March 1849, died 14 January 1919.55 She was a daughter of M. and M. Jackson. William served in the 2nd Rockbridge Artillery, CSA and in Company E 52nd VA Infantry, 4th Brigade. 62 v. James4 A. "Jim" Ford (James3, James2, James1) born c1837, died 13 July 1895.56 Jim was a bachelor. On 26 May 1870, James A. Ford was elected as assessor of Buffalo District.57 63 vi. Rachel4 Ford (James3, James2, James1) born c1839, died 28 March 1917.58 She married 30 May 1861, Jacob M. Potter.59 25 iii. Mary3 Ann Ford (James2, James1) married 11 June 1829, Alexander Entsminger, Henry Ruffner performed their marriage ceremony.60 26 iv. Elizabeth3 Ford (James2, James1) married 28 February 1832, Samuel Vess, Jr.61 27 v. Margaret3 Ford, (James2, James1) married 22 February 1831, Lewis Clark Entsminger, Andrew B. Frances3 "Fanny" Ford (William2, James1) born c1810, married 5 December 1833, John Clarke.69 34 vi. Rebecca3 Ford (William2, James1) married 2 October 1827, Joseph D. Tolley.70 After Josephıs death, she married 21 November, 1854, Frederick Carter.71 35 vii. David3 Ford (William2, James1) born c1818, died 11 January 1881. He married 22 March 1838, Margaret Cummings. He married second, 11 January 1872, Sarah Jane Goodbar, Rev. O. Hicks officiating. Sarah was born 22 December 1839, died 23 April 1883. Sarah was a daughter of John M. and Jane (Clark) Goodbar. David and Sarah are buried at the Ford Cemetery, Blacks Creek, Rockbridge County, VA. David, Margaret, and Sarah all died of consumption.72 After Sarah's death Harvey Goodbar was appointed guardian of her children.73 64 i. John4 Montgomery "Mackey" Ford (David3, William2, James1) born 12 November 1868 Rockbridge County, VA. He was raised by his grandfather Goodbar. Mackey went to Cass County, MO before January 1891. While there he married Georgia Hodges, they divorced in 1902. Mackey and Georgia had two children. In 1908, Mackey moved to Lincoln Center, KS, there he married Belle Dill. They had eight children. Mackey and Belle are buried at Lincoln Center, KS.74 65 ii. Hattie4 Hull Ford (David3, William2, James1) born 10 September 1872, Collierstown, Rockbridge County, VA. Hattie was raised by Goodbar relatives. She married 17 May 1891, Andrew R. Robinson, Rev. Thomas J. Miller officiating. Andrew was a son of H. T. and J. Robinson. He was born c1870. They moved to Pocahontas County, WV for a time, and then lived on Upper Colliers Creek. Hattie died 8 December 1906, and is buried at Collierstown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rockbridge County, VA. They had four children.75 66 iii. Missouri4 Jane Ford (David3, William2, James1) born 14 September 1874, Rockbridge County, VA. 67 iv. Mary4 "Hayse" Ford (David3, William2, James1) born 7 November 1876, Rockbridge County, VA. Hayse lived with relatives after her parent's death. She went to Washington, D.C., married, but divorced. Hayse died 29 June 1971, aged 94 years at DC Village Infirmary. She had no children.76 68 v. Orpha4 Ford (David3, William2, James1) born 14 November 1879, Rockbridge County, VA. She was raised by her grandfather Goodbar. She married John Putnam of Alleghany County, VA. Orpha died of tuberculosis. She had one son who died young.77 35 viii.
