In some matches, the mats are provided by the match organizers for at
least
some of the shooters. For this to be acceptable, the mats must meet
minimum
standards of quality. In addition to that, the mats (and all other
equipment) also must not give unfair advantage to any competitor, so
there
are maximum limitations as well.

[Editor - Several respondents echoed similar answers. This answer makes
sense. However, aside from thickness, I could find no rules stipulating a
maximum size, which is why I became curious. Apparently the max would be
the dims of the firing point.]
[Editor - I received this response shortly after mailing out the last
list. Ian was the other supplier of custom mats in the UK I was informed
about.]
Apologies for the delay, been snowed under with paperwork and computer
problems but we are back on line now.
To answer your question I have had made up a mat which is the maximum
ISSF thickness,
Ie 50mm at the elbow area the rest is about 25mm,and as you say it folds
into four, the overall sizer is about 5" thick by 28 " by
17".
Shooters who complain of bad elbows seem to think this is heaven !!,but
it does elivate the front of the position up a bit .
Its made of waterproof blue plastic sheet with a form of heavy convayer
belt material which
does give a little on the elbow area.I sell them here for 58.00 inc
tax,to post they are a little expensive due to the weight ,I suppose I
could take and send a polaroid pic as I dont have digital camera as yet.
Would need your address.
Look forward to your reply if interested

Just a quick response regarding the S&B ammo. We used to use it
frequently for training purposes in Kenya. It is fairly accurate. I
wouldn't say that it outdoes Tenex in my barrel but it may do so in
someone elses. I do know that the range that I used to fire at in Miami,
FL, however, banned the use of this ammo due to frequent misfires. Never
had this problem myself though!
Hope this helps.

SELLIER & BELLOT ammo
About 5 years I bought 4 cases of their ammo for our Jr club. It was
supposed to be pretty good stuff. I think that I can best describe its
performance by what the kids said. "You can always tell that this
ammo because it says Czech-a-la-shit when you shoot it. Kids who would
normally shoot 94-97 prone started shooting 86-90.
As I remember we got a lot of powder fouling, a lot of misfires, and
considerable leading.
Other than that the price was great!

I wonder if some of your readers have any experience with "operated
herniated discs". I was operated (L3-4 and L4-5) after the Sydney
Games, about four months now. How soon can you start shooting again? My
doctors have been holding me from any shooting, or golf, even do I think
that I'm not ready yet. I shoot prone only.
Thanks,
[Editor - Have you actually shown your doctor what you do?
Unless you have a high position or odd loading routine, your back
shouldn't be under much stress in prone. However, they must have some
reason for their decision so I would follow orders. You certainly don't
want to injure your back further.]
I've bought a FWB P70 and I'm trying to use some sighting heights, that
elevate the sighting line in 10 mm.
The question is that I'm not used to it and I feel a little
"strange"
because my neck stays more straight.
What you recommend ? A lower position instead of a worst neck position or
a
higher one but with a worst balance sensation?
Best regards

[Editor - I always encourage keeping the head as upright as possible and
the ears level. Tilting the head forward a bit is OK but never sideways.
I'm curious why you feel out of balance with your head in a more natural
position. Give it some time.]
Does anyone have any experience with the Gehmann leather and canvas
ISSF coat? I coach a high school team and have been outfitting them
with the Champions Choice ISU coat, which has been discontinued. I
purchased Gehmann's double canvas ISSF coat, but I am concerned that
it is too fragile for 14-18 year old kids. Especially with the
spandex in the elbows.
Any comments and are there any full leather coats comparable to the
Champions?
Thanks,
Peter
[Editor - I'd say the coat should be OK but the pants may not be. I
outfitted my team this year with those items (the newer blue/white ones.
I didn't have as much a problem with the older pants (the ugly green
ones), but the plastic zippers were still cheap and would still sometimes
jam or split. Anyway, the buckle on the new pants on the shipment I got
have some burrs on them from being stamped so they may cut through the
strap eventually. And one of the buckle straps wasn't sewed in well so
I've had to fix 2 of them so far and will need to do a couple more next
year I'd guess. The jackets hold up OK but the Germans must be very
broad-shouldered as I had to move the top buttons in on every one of
them. Buttons may eventually break off under stress, but they do the same
on the top jackets too. None of the newer ones have done that yet but the
green jackets I got a couple years ago have had a couple break.]
There was a gentleman named Ron that had a Winchester 52 free rifle that
asked
a question about its suitability in your march 2000 newsletter. I have
been
looking for one of these to shoot/collect for some time. If you know this
gentleman's email address, or the location of a 52, please let me know.
Thanks for your time, and I enjoy reading your newsletter.
