Pittsburgh Penguins at Vancouver Canucks

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Mike Ridley had a goal and an assist and Corey Hirsch made 26 saves in his first start in nearly three weeks as the Vancouver Canucks edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Saturday, handing them their seventh straight road loss.

Vancouver also broke a nine-game losing streak against Pittsburgh, beating the Penguins for the first time since Feb. 27, 1991.

Ridley's assist came when he sent Alexander Mogilny in on a breakaway. Mogilny was taken down by a Penguin defender, but Martin Gelinas, who was trailing the play, picked up the loose puck and snapped it into the left corner past goaltender Ken Wregget at 10:43 of the first period.

The Canucks increased their lead less than four minutes later when Gino Odjick chipped a loose puck back to Ridley in the left faceoff circle. He fired a wrist shot past Wregget.

Hirsch, who returned after missing five games with a chest injury he suffered after landing on the butt end of his stick, made six saves in the first and 10 in each of the last two periods to even his record at 1-1.

The Penguins scored their only goal early in the second. With Pittsburgh's Esa Tikkanen off for a hooking penalty, Jaromir Jagr took a pass from Ron Francis and went top shelf over Hirsch for his sixth goal of the season.

Wregget made 24 saves for Pittsburgh, which has lost three straight and eight of its first 10 games.
