Noonan was acquired by the Canucks on March 8, 1997 along with Sergei Nemchinov from the New York Rangers in exchange for Esa Tikkanen and Russ Courtnall.
Canucks GM Pat Quinn described him after the trade as "a grinder and a guy who works the boards real well."
Noonan has bounced around the NHL. He was drafted by the Blackhawks in the ninth round, 179th overall, in the 1983 Entry Draft. He spent seven years with Chicago, and was traded to the Rangers on March 22, 1994 along with Stephane Matteau in exchange for Tony Amonte, just in time for the Rangers playoff run. He went to St. Louis as a free agent in the off-season on July 11, 1995.
